Dallas Mavericks in the Playoffs this season

I saw this posted and thought it was interesting.

Eddie Jones 33,3% FG, 25,0% 3pt FG

Devean George 30,4% FG, 10% 3pt FG

Erick Dampier 43,8% FG, 40% FT, 4 RPG

Josh Howard 29,2% FG, 10% 3pt FG

Jerry Stackhouse 26,9% FG, 25% 3pt FG

Jason Kidd 37% FG, 44,4% 3pt FG 62,5 FT%

Antoine Wright had a turnover every 3.30 minutes he played, which probably translates into one turnover per touch. He grabbed one rebound, no points.

Malik Allen played 18 minutes, but had all zeros on the scoreboard. No rebounds, no points, no blocks.

Jason Terry 43,3% FG, 44,4 3pt FG%

Brandon Bass 12 PPG, 6 RPG, 50% FG, 100% FT in 24 minutes.

Dirk Nowitzki 27 PPG, 12 RPG, 4 APG, 1.5 BPG, 47% FG, 33,3% 3pt FG

Other than Dirk, no one played well on that team, so why does Dirk get the blame this year?

For the same reason kobe gets blamed for the losses to phoenix and tmac gets blamed for not getting out of the first round and melo as well.

It's a tendency to blame the best player on the team because they're the 'face of the franchise' despite what they do or who they do it with.

I've gained a lot of respect for dirk (i live in dallas) and watching him play this year, he's a gamer. His teammates around him really suck, kidd and josh were terrible. But when you get the credit for winning a championship, unfortunately, the other side of the sword is getting ripped for not "leading" your team to victory.

Bass and Terry played well too, but you're right. Dirk deserves no part of the blame with so much of his supporting cast playing like absolute crap.

surprisingly, I haven't heard many people blame Dirk this year..most people seem to recognize the fact that he was the only player on their team that gave it his all and got results..

Who's blaming Dirk? I thought he gave it everything he had. His was one of the NBA's best playoff performances this year.

The Mavs lost despite him. Not because of him.

Time to blow up that team.

Dirk was phenomenal, and Bass.

Dirk was great, anybody putting all the blame on him to losing to a BETTER team is dumb.

I thought Avery got the blame. Seriously, I thought that's why he was the one who got fired.

Damp, Howard and Stack were awful. RealGM needs a puking smiley just for their performances in this series.

I don't think anyone is blaming Dirk. He was terrific, it was Kidd, Avery, J-Ho, anyone but Dirk.

I was watching a show today and they kept blaming the Mavs lost on Dirk saying he didn't show up. I get tired of these commentators and so called analysts saying these things and they don't back it up. They just talk from the side of the their head.

oh ok i thought you were referring to espn first take

dirk played well, it was the other guys who didnt step up, specifically players like howard and kidd. I remember when the mavs used to be so stacked with talent, but then cuban dealt those guys like jamison and walker to be more of a traditional team. It seemed in this series, they needed better players.

The Mavs did not look like themselves. You have to give New Orleans credit. They were the superior team. Howard should be traded. They are not going anywhere as of right now.

that team w/walker and jamison sucked, it was a joke w/antoine at C and shawn bradley backing him up

the mavs started becoming legit when they broke up that team, 4 years later we're back in that same situation, though it looks much more bleak

I havent heard anyone blame Dirk, the numbers don't lie and if anyone watched the games, they could tell who cared and who didn't.

Hell even Screamin A Smith said Dirk played with heart and he loves calling Dirk a soft white choker.

Man, some of those other stats look disgusting. what a waste.

God damn. Now only did I see those statistics put up by his so called "GREAT SUPPORTING CAST."

Those are 2005 Lakers-ish cast stats.
Or 2008 Heat-ish cast stats.

I've seen a few people on this board blame Dirk or at least posts like "LOL DIRK IS SOFT" or "DIRK IS A LOSER WHO'LL NEVER WIN ANYTHING" after the playoff loss.

Most probably Spurs fans. My guess is TAI18.
There are few teams who have the resolve of the Spurs, but fans of this team don't even know how to win gracefully, despite much success. It's like they see winning as a license to say anything they want.

IMO.

Edit: though it could have also probably been Chubby Chaser.
