Do you loose some respect for Spurs 4 using Hack a Shaq.

Phil Jackson brought this up and after thinking I have to agree. I think using the hack a Shaq makes me think less of Greg Popovich and the Spurs. The idea that a world championship team used the hack a Shaq to advance to the second round makes me really wonder how confident they were in there ability to win that series without. I don't think they win game 1 or game 5 without using it.

the suns could have taken shaq out. if it costs the suns two games then sucks for d'antoni and his stubbornness.

Its not the Spurs's fault that Shaq cant shoot freethrows to save his life.

some lose respect, others praise for attacking such an obvious weakness.
the ultimate goal is to win right?

I just dont like the idea of fouling him off the ball. If he is about to dunk it right next to the basket, then foul him. Or if he has the ball in his hands, and you want to use it, the foul him. But to foul him off the ball numerous times is not good imo.
Before anyone criticizes phil about using hack a shaq in chicago against orlando, he said he didnt do it when he was off the ball, only when he was at the basket ready to dunk.
But it helped the spurs win, and thats all that matters.

I love hack a shaq, it's hillarious when shaq misses FTs. I liked that Eddie Jordan used the Hack a Ben Wallace on a few occasions. Guys who are so poor at a fundamental skillset such as shooting FTs, should be punished and embarrassed.

Lose respect for a coach for using a brilliant tactic which uses an opposing players weakness against him? lol.

I liked how the announcers (or just Doug Collins) through out the series, half-kiddingly were wondering if Shaq could just go sit in the front row or stand out of bounds

Phil's just a hater.. He did the samething in Chicago vs. Orlando.. Just because Shaq had the ball doesn't make a difference. If you're on the court regardless of where you are on the court a foul is a foul. It's not like Shaq was sitting on the bench and the Spurs fouled him and compelled him to shoot FTs.

It's called smart basketball. I don't know why anyone wouldn't do it. You have to take advantage of these kinds of exploits. Phil is just jealous that he can't beat the Spurs anymore.

Its not a brilliant tactic. Its really stupid. Off the ball fouls to gain an advantage ruins the spirit of basketball. If it works why not do it the entire game. Use all the fouls at the end of your bench. Use some of the fouls of your starters. You may be able to ruin 30 possessions. You could have an entire quarter of just hack a shaq.
IMO if your the best then go out and show your the best. Its embarrassing to be put in the game just to foul Shaq. The players don't want to do hack a Shaq. You just make them look like there not needed.
Its within the rules and you can't kill them 4 it. That said steroids wasn't against the rules in baseball either didn't mean it was right to take them.

It's part of the game, like mentioned they're taking advantage of an opponents weakness, it's just smart.
They didn't lose the series because of this either (they could have just taken Shaq out as well), it was because of the inability to stop dribble penetration and execution in the late stages of a game.
