its a veteran team with great offense that need to be pushed defensively avery would do that and with a great pg and solid frontline he could take the suns over the top. kerr make the calllllllllll

Maybe, I dont know if they have the defensive parts to work, plus avery is a control freak that would crowd Nash too much

I wonder how Nash will like Avery micromanaging everything and calling in all the plays. Maybe he will install his ISO offense too, that would be amusing.

Avery is not a good fit for the Suns, IMO he is better served on a team attempting to rebuild where he would be coaching younger players. Teams built around talented vets don't need or want Avery barking out every play.

averys system is founded and rooted in nellies system of basketball. he has some differences, but overall, nellie was the coach that raised him and taught him his schemes.

You're trippin' ....... Once Nellie was gone, Avery immediately preached the basics of defense, something Nellie never did........as well as being versatile. Nellie was a one-trick pony.

Just because they choked, doesn't mean they hadn't focused on defense. That whole season they played tremendous defense. Your logic fails.

2-0 lead in the finals is more than choking. a choking team could at least win 1 more before losing.

.........they didn't play the same system! Just because they both failed to win a championship, it doesn't mean they ran the same one ....... that's like saying because both you and I aren't both millionaires yet, we both haven't ever bought any lottery tickets.

sheeesh, some folks around here need to wake up and smell the coffee. nellie was head coach. nellies son was assistant coach. nellies son moved up to the offices and ruled from there. but of course, avery earned his way and applied for the job like everyone else, and got his coaching experience and knowledge from elsewhere.

The 2004-2005 Mavs with Nellie and Avery:
Offense - 102.5 pts/g
Defense - 96.7

The 2006-2007 Mavs with Avery:
Offense - 100.0 pts/g
Defense - 92.8 pts/g

The team clearly transitioned from an uptempo free-flowing team to a defensive-minded, iso-focused team when Avery took over.

Nash's inability to play defense will drive Avery nutty.

Avery would be a horrible coach for the Suns. Avery needs a young athletic team who needs a tough coach to whoop them into shape and wake them up.

Phoenix needs a defensive minded coach, that would still let Nash run up and down the court every now and then.

Solution: Switch Larry Brown with Avery Johnson.

Larry Brown would be the perfect Coach for the Suns. He's defensive minded. He knows how to set up half court traps to stop system offenses. He knows to give someone like Nash freedom to operate (like he did with Iverson).

Avery in Charlotte would be a perfect fit. I have no idea why that team isn't competing in the east. They are probably the most under achieving team next to Miami this year. There is so much young emerging talent on Charlotte that all they need is a barking coach to keep them focused, smack them every now and then to remind them how good they can be. Avery's one on one exploit mismatches on offense would be perfect in Charlotte since the bobcats are a super athletic team but are not used to playing team ball to get points.

Solution: Make Steve Nash player/Coach. He knows the system better than anyone else and he knows what they lack and what they need.
