Why am I not hearing news on this?

They said the Mavs committed to Rick and that if he hasnt already he will probably sign tonight

The congratulated him to the Dallas family and that was that.

Did anyone else see this?

Was it Peter Vecsey?

Well that was to be expected. They wanted JVG, but being forever a Rocket at heart he said no. ;)

Donnie Nelson didn't want to leave the front office. And frankly we knew they weren't going to get D'Antoni. Not exactly the type of coach they had in mind. They could've waited for Thibodeau (who I think is the next best option available) though.

I'm not sure on how this really is a change or much of an improvement, honestly speaking? I respect Rick as a coach and think he'll do a fine job, but I don't see the fit at this point.

isn't Rick similar to Avery, as in not allowing much "creativity" from his PG in an up tempo way?..

espn reported that Cuban didn't even attend the carlisle meeting and that he wasn't going to be in the first round on any of these guys.

I'm always very leery of anything that Peter Vecsey says. Cuban hates him so I can't imagine anyone in the Mavs would give him any kind of scoop.

I saw that, according to Peter Vescey, Rick met with the team and has agreed to coach the team. No contracts or anything signed just yet, IMO, I would have taken Mike D'Antoni over Rick Carlisle.

EDIT: I watched it again, Vescey said that he has actually signed the contract and they are just expecting a press conference now.

Rick Carlisle won't be reunited with former boss Donnie Walsh with the Knicks New York Knicks. Sources told The Post last night that the former Pacer and Piston coach, who interviewed with Walsh for the Knick coaching job Wednesday, has agreed to terms with the Mavericks to replace Avery Johnson.

Maverick owner Mark Cuban wasted little time in his search for a new coach. After firing Johnson on Wednesday, Cuban quickly moved to interview, and then hire, Carlisle.

If it will be true, i think Carlisle is a good coach for the Mavs.

He did some good things when he was coaching.
