It seems like he will according to the wiretap, but i thought he did an admirable job in the playoffs with a young team going against the team with the best record in the league. It was a very successful season for them with getting experience and exposure to the playoffs, but it ended on a sour note.

Taking the best regular season team to 7 games is nothing to feel shame about, and obviously his team responded to his coaching. I think he deserves another opportunity. An overlooked factor in young teams is having consistency with your team and organization. I think they should have some patience and see what happens next season if the success translates, this is not a good time for change for that team imo.

The Atlanta Hawks announced today that Executive Vice-President and General Manager Billy Knight has submitted his resignation, effective July 1st, after six seasons with the club.

I would keep him around unless you can D'Antonio. His style of coaching would suite them well.

Woodson is a terrible coach. I'd say you could roll the dice and find a better one.

Honestly, I think he should get fired. He was on his way to the unemployment office before the playoffs even started; everyone expected the Hawks to be swept, like myself, hell they got their asses handed to them in the final game of the regular season against a bunch of d-leaguers.

I don't believe he's the right coach for that team. Mike D'Antoni would make sense IMO, Joe Johnson played a season under him so he would be familiar with the system D'Antoni runs. A fast up tempo offensive team could make noise in the Eastern Conference; and the Hawks has the talent to run the offense D'Antoni runs.

Woodson did do well in the playoff and I don't think he should be fired, but... he really isn't a good coach, if the Hawks want to take it to another level, they have to find someone else that's better. Woodson might take the Hawks into the post-season but I don't see him leading them past the second round anytime soon.

The Hawks underachieved with Mike. They should look to lure in the other Mike.

Woodson is a horrible coach. There is just no other way around to say it. He did lead the Hawks to 3 wins against the Celtics with a huge ast from the Fans. He has also led the Hawks to 4 blowout defeats on the road. He underachieve with this roster all season long. He rarely used his bench. There are some talented players on that bench. If he stays any longer JJ is going to be retiring soon.

you can't let good games outweigh 4 bad seasons. Especially when he made some of the same stupid mistakes in the 3 good games (sitting players with 2 fouls for entire quarters).

If the Hawks want to progress and evolve they have to get rid of Woodson and his staff. Also, this staff is TERRIBLE at developing role players. Every non-rotation player got a lot worse.

One of the bigger things that surprised me about them beating Boston three times for me was the fact that they did so with no discernible offensive system. When they did win, it seemed like they won in spite of Woodson's odd decision-making.

If they really want to make the best of their talent, they really should move on to someone else, and it really won't be hard to find someone better.

More than anything, Woodson just isn't a right fit for the team. He's an old school guy that has to do everything his way. There's nothing wrong with that, but it's better for a veteran team. He also insists on slowing the game down at crucial points which does not suit our personnel either. I see him maybe getting another chance and doing a nice job in the right situation, but the right situation is not in Atlanta.

Woodson is not necessarily a bad person or anything but he is limited as a coach. He makes changes (or promises changes) to fundamental things literally years after Atlanta fans have been bitching about them. He ran this team to play whatever style the opposition played until Bibby came over and then instead of incorporating Bibby into the offensive "system" he had developed he literally said Bibby could change things if he wanted (which he did to get effect despite his subpar play). Woodson has yet to instill a system or an identity on offense and won't even do basic things like stopping Josh Smith from shooting 3s or hanging around outside the 3pt line. It is brutal having to watch him with this team over 82 games.

Woodson is a very poor coach and needs to be replaced for this team to go to the next level. 37 wins with this group is definitely underacheiving, IMO.

Woodson was at his peak during these playoffs but that shouldn't be enough to get another contract when guys like D'Antoni, Carlisle, Fratello, etc. are out there.

Fratello is too stubborn and doesn't adjust to players, he wants to run set plays all game. the player don't like htat.

D"antoni has got issues to especially on the defensive end

D'Antoni would fit here.

Fratello would bitch like crazy in Atlanta, Doug Collins is a dinosaur.

Carlisle is too much of a control freak for a very inexp. team.

Avery Johnson he'd be sort of solid there. But I'm not speaking for the Hawks, their own star backed up Mr. Woodson, so they do the talking. If Joe Johnson feels very comfortable with him, keep him, and continue to improve the roster. That roster isn't STACKED at all. They got a bunch of rangy players, limited size with just Al & Zaza, and still lack consistent shooters.

All of them have some issues but at least they have some assets as well. Even Woodson's most ardent supporters can't point to anything he does really well.

(On Fratello, he has run several different systems during his years in the NBA - some where he let them more loose and some where he tried to slow pace, limit the number of total plays, and run set plays all day. He has advocated the Hawks playing uptempo during his playoff commentary which suggests he would not be running a tight halfcourt offense with them like he did with some rosters.)

Woodson may be a great assisstant, but he just isn't suited to be a head coach. Yes the Hawks won 3 games at home, but I didn't notice any brilliant coaching decisions. It's easy to get hyped up and play well when you have 20,000+ people cheering you on. We went to Boston six times this year and lost all six by blowouts. I don't care how good a team is, that's just pathetic.

He doesn't have the best roster in the world, but he has enough to be more successful than he has been. The thing that frustrated me the most is that he refused to develop his bench. Our bench isn't going to win any championships, but Law, Salim, West, Richardson and Solomon all give us something that we struggle with at times. Still, even after we clinched the playoffs and the starters were just dogging it out there, he never gave them any extended minutes.

And it's not even like they sucked when they played. He'd randomly give a guy minutes, the guy would play well and then get 10 minutes over the next 10 games. It's (Please Use More Appropriate Word).

All in all, he's an idiot.

37 wins, with that amount of talent in the east? he should have gotten fired scott skiles style. 3 wins because the celtics decided to overlook them doesn't change that.
