In order to spoil their koolaid the Hornets would have to beat the Lakers. So to answer your question, NO.

This is like 1996-97. Malone won the MVP despite Jordan being more deserved, Bulls beat Jazz in the Finals with Jordan dominating and Malone choking as everyone realised who the real MVP was.

This time its Bryant winning the MVP despite Paul being more deserved, Hornets beat Lakers in the Western Finals with Paul dominating and Kobe choking (just like his last trip to the Finals) as everyone realises who the real MVP is.

I think it is more likely that Cleveland will beat Boston than the Lakers losing to anymore at this point. However, New Orleans has been playing outstanding basketball and could beat anyone if they can sustain their present level of play.

The thing working against the Hornets that they have had in every round up to this point and won't have against the Lakers, is homecourt advantage. As a young team, I do believe their home crowd helps them tremendously. I'm not saying they couldn't win in Los Angeles, but it is unlikely.

However, don't look past San Antonio just yet.

Cleveland are a team built for the playoffs, they grind it out and they have the finisher in LeBron (just not in game 1). I think the Cavs will defeat Boston in 6.

Neither the Celtics or Lakers are definite at this point, but they probably are the two favorites. Rondo has outplayed Paul in the regular season, so it would be an interesting series. It's amazing how much talk there has been about Portland and the Lakers being the next great teams in the West, but New Orleans has been ignored. If the Lakers never win a Championship with Kobe, I wouldn't be too surprised, and Paul is the reason for that.

Hornets were 26-15 on the road, so it isn't like they're crippled on the road. Home crowd does help (as it should), but it isn't an end-all.

Nobody is looking past SA, but nobody seems to care that SA has never come back from a 2-0 deficit.

Frankly, I don't see anyone beating the lakers this year.

chris paul did NOT deserve the MVP over kobe bryant. over everybody else, yes. but not kobe. the team went on a hot stretch late in the season(when the trophy was still undecided as stated by many writers), defeated paul and the hornets, defeated the defending champion spurs, and took down the conference 1st place lead. winning goes hand in hand with the MVP title. and chris paul took 2nd place in the conference, he led his team to 2nd place in the conference, and despite his outstanding play, should be 2nd place in the MVP.

folks are looking at pauls playoff performance and saying "SEE, I TOLD YA SO" but by that time, the ballots have already been turned in.

now in years to come? chris paul will win his. but this year, no.

Noone can guard Kobe but NO has plenty of players to throw at him (MoPete, Bonzi, Wright, Pargo).

NO matches poorly against Pistons and Utah, if those teams do not stand in the way NO truely has a chance.

I think the Lakers are gonna make it through. It would take some crazy, freaky injury to one of their top 4 guys to stop em I think. Not so sold on Boston though. I think Cleveland, Detroit and Orlando all have a chance to spoil the Celtics.

NO has as good a shot as anyone to win the title but lets not get out the annointing oil just because 1/2 this board decided to watch CP3 for the first time ever this round.

This is a what if tread. NO is up 2-0 on Spurs but noone should count Spurs out till they lose 4th game.

NO is a young team with a young star that has not been down in the playoffs and have not faced adversity. NO has shown remarkable poise during this season but to be truely tested they would have to lose next 2 games in San Antonio.

If at that point they bounce back and win the series, they will be in great shape.
