No All-Star....yet All-NBA. Track record? (Manu + DWill)

Since Deron Williams and Manu Ginobili just made 2nd and 3rd team, respectively, and yet neither one was elected to the All-Star game, it got me thinking....what kind of track record is there for this happening?
Manu finished NINTH in the MVP vote, for crying out loud (DWill 12th) and yet didn't make an All-Star team. How can a player be generally considered to be top 10-12 in the league....and yet not even make a team that includes the ~25 best players? It literally boggles the mind.
Soo....the question is, has a player ever made 1st team All-NBA and not made the All-Star game. What is the highest placement in MVP voting for a non-All Star, and how many times has a player made 2nd team All-NBA and not made AS? Or is this the first time?
Any know?....or care to find out?

The year Chipper Jones won his MVP he wasn't in the all-star game. I know it's not basketball but I can't think of any situation like that in the NBA.

Like I've said before, the Roy hype back then was getting out of control, hence his selection over those guys and Baron. I think that Melo made 3rd team in 06 but no all-star but idk.

I believe Melo as well was an All NBA'er before an allstar.

the all-star voting isnt exactly an exact science lol. its more legitimate to base player performance on all-nba selection than whether or not they were an all-star (eg. brandon roy hype)

One of Manu or Deron Williams should have definitely gotten in to the all star game.

Sure, yeah. Most know
why it happened, I'm sure.
That's not the issue, though, I'm just asking what kind of history is there for this happening, and has a player ever made 1st team All-NBA without being an AS? If not, is this the first time a player has ever made the 2nd team without making the AS game?
Would love to know.
....I do remember the Melo thing, though. The def rings a bell.

Didn't McDyess make the All-NBA third as well in 98-99 without making the all-star team?
McGrady was also another one named to the All-NBA team without being named an all star (as well as finishing #8 in MVP voting). When was the last time three players have done that in the same year?

All Star Games = 1
He made the 2005 All Star team.
I assume he's talking about this year.

The fan voting hurts these type of players.
-AI and Melo shouldn't have been starters, and since the fans pick the starting lineup a players popularity can decide who makes the last few picks, not the way the player is playing. They shouldn't have been starters, but because they were, they kicked some players like Nash, Nowistki, Paul, and Amare out of the starting lineup. Those 4 players i just mentioned are not going to not be picked for the team, so it really took 2 spots away from the team, 1 of which probably would of been Deron or Ginobli. Assuming Melo was picked and AI wasn't, the final decision would of been between Deron and Ginolbi.
Same thing could of happened this year in the East, with Shaq being the more popular player between himself and D12, but D12 being the obvious better player. Shaq being so popular would of taken a spot away from a more deserving player, because D12 will be on the team whether he's voted in or not.
