The problem is, that the SG position is the most one-dimensional in the game. The prototypical SG's job is to score, which doesn't necessarily pertain to making everyone around you better. It's rare to see a SG who truly makes his teammates better like Kobe or Jordan.

6'6 is the ideal height for SGs as proven by MJ and Kobe. However, besides Kobe, who else in the league right now is an all-star every year that plays shooting guard and is 6'6?

Looking at the 2008 NBA All-Star roster, the only player other than Kobe who is 6'6 is Brandon Roy but he hasn't proven anything yet.

People say that finding a good shooting guard is the easiest but is finding a dominant shooting guard the hardest thing to do in the NBA?

You have dominant PGs like Williams, Paul, Nash, Parker, Kidd, Davis, etc. Then you have dominant SFs like Lebron, Melo, and Pierce. PFs are plenty. Centers are becoming relevant again with Dwight, Yao, Bynum, and next year with Oden.

But what about that franchise shooting guard? Is Wade, at 6'4 a shooting guard or is he more of a tweener between SG and PG?

Almost every team in the league has a SG who's either too big or too small and just a role player.

Is the SG position the hardest to find elite players at or is it just the least important of all positions?

They aren't hart to find. The talent level of a Kobe or MJ is hard to find.

What about Franchise players? With the exception of the Lakers, I can't seem to think of another team that has a legit franchise SG.

Stars are hard to find but if I had to find one I think 6'6" shooting guards might be the easiest to fine.

What's the difference of their height? Wade is a SG, not a PG-SG combo.

I would say the only true star SG's are Kobe and Wade. Then again, I only consider about 6-7 players true stars in this league. (KG, LeBron, TD, Paul)

I wouldn't say SG is the least important position, but it is the hardest to find a player that can truely dominate. Wade and Kobe have shown they can completely dominate games and win at the biggest stage while being legit no.1 options.

Michael Jordan's youngest son Marcus will be the next great SG.

I'm still not understanding why it matters whether the players 6'6 or not.. who cares?

Ok, first of all, T-Mac is 6-10 (according to Garnett) and listed 6-9 on NBA.com...

Most sites always say he's 6-4, 6-5 or 6-7. I remember him being taller than Jordan back in '97.

SG is a meaningless label.

Rather, we have "wing" players (including Kobe, Lebron, Melo, etc.) who are capable of playing either SG or SF.

Honestly, the whole position system is basketball should be reevaluated. Better catagories would be something like: pure point, combo guard, wing, combo forward, post player, pure center.

There are plenty of good shooting guards around that size. Manu, Martin, Roy, Rip, Allen, Vince. They aren't all perennial allstars, but how many players are?

That said, the shooting skill is so important to today's teams. Some teams are better off going with a shooter instead of a better rounded player.
