OJ Mayo and his issues

Given the latest issues that have arisen over the past couple of days in regards to OJ Mayo, it's almost certain it will have an impact of where he is drafted.
Will a team, pass up on him for such an act; it's not as if he was involved in drugs, violence or anything of that nature, even thought what he's been accused of doing is still outside of NCAA Rules?

If it ends up being that Mayo violated NCAA rules related to him being given $$ I don't think it will have that much of an impact. I look at it alot like Reggie Bush acouple years earlier.

Yeah that's what i heard too, "legally" Mayo and BDA will not face any penalty, but the ncaa may punish USC

I highly doubt that.
USC is a $$ powerhouse for the NCAA.

sort of, I don't know all the details but Webber was paid by a booster closely associated with the school. From what it sounds like in OJ situation it was a promoter/ agent firm. USC might not be punished as harshly if the NCAA finds they didn't have anything to do with the payment but were aware of it.

the real trouble will fall on BDA if anything happens, it's actually like a class one misdemeanor in California I believe, which carries a nice fine...as for Mayo, once he's drafted, it will all disappear...

Exactly, Mayo didn't do anything Illegal, it just violated NCAA rules.

What legal issues? Someone offered him money and gifts and he took them. Seriously, if that affects where he is drafted then the GM's in this leauge have problems.

If my team passed on the Mayo because he took money I would be angry at my team. Nothing wrong with a man getting payed for his labor, in spite of what that for-profit institution tells you.

Mayo wouldn't even have to follow these (Please Use More Appropriate Word) NCAA rules if Stern never raised the age limit... That being said I wouldn't be surprised if a few teams passed up on Mayo... And he fell to the Nets
I can dream, can't I?

because NCAA rules werent being broken before the NBA rule change...

I understand the reasons for why the rules are like they are, but when someone says, "we aren't going to pay you, but you better not accept FREE MONEY!!" then problems are going to happen.
Really, who isn't going to take free money and gifts?

Netsforce, was saying Mayo never would have violated these rules if it wasn't for the age limit because he never would have went to college in the first place.

I think I liked Dickey V's idea(haha), when a guy applies to have his draft status evaluated, if he gets a first round grad/guarantee, then he should be able to come out after high school, and if he doesn't, it's college or another alternative for 3 years.
I'm firmly against the age limit, but that might be the best way to go about it.

still not a valid reason to go against said rules.
he's participating/partaking in something many would kill to enjoy, he NEEDS to abide by the rules, no matter how silly they may be.

but, that's opinionated more so than any factual sentiment that an be reasonably lobbied for/against.

Happy Birthday!
Unfortunately, I didn't buy you a gift because the NCAA says you're not allowed to receive them.
