Andrew Bynum Surgery Results

Los Angeles Lakers center Andrew Bynum underwent successful arthroscopic surgery on his left knee today in New York, it was announced today by the team.
The procedure, which took 30 minutes and was performed by Dr. David Altchek, consisted of removing some cartilage debris and smoothing some rough spots on the underside of the kneecap.
Bynum is expected to make a full recovery by the start of training camp.

He probly wont be back till training camp of the 2009-2010 season

They could have just done this all along and he would have been back a month and a half ago.

Bynum may never be the same, a second surgery needed is never a good sign.

That is not 100% true. They needed to wait for the swelling to subside before they could cut him, plus they wanted to wait as long as possible without actually having to cut his knee up. They did a minor scope, like Kobe's had several times, and they just cleaned it up a bit. Nothing major. Baron Davis actually came back from arthroscopic surgery after just 3 weeks I think.

He didn't have surgery. He's been trying to rehab this injury naturally this whole time...

He had another surgery before earlier in his career. Hopefully this puts to rest all those, "But if Bynum was playing we would have beat <insert team that beat the Lakers>," comments.

He'll be fine. There was very little work needed on his knee, from what I've read. It's still surgery, but he should come back ok.

There was a rumor that he had surgery when we was 12. I don't know if it is true or not.

you do realize that other surgery was when he was in his early-mid teens, he was 15. and it was on the other knee.
but i guess that if requiring 2 surgies in your lifetime immediatly, makes someone bad, then maybe the blazers should just give up on oden since he has already has 3-4 surgeries.
seriously though. knee surgery when these guys while they are in there teens is farily coomon. you don't grow to 7 feet and not have some weird stuff going on. rapid growth can cause rediculous growths on joints, that is often cleared out to improve athleticism.

LOL, a lot of folks are HOPING he never recovers.
It'd be a shame really. He seems like a nice talent.
I don't think it'll hamper him too much.

He'll be fine, this is just arthroscopic knee surgery and that's really nothing.

He should be fine.
On an unrelated note, has there ever been news that the surgury of a major sports star was NOT called successful? I've always felt like saying "surgury was successful" is misleading, success isn't measured till we know if the player can return at the same level.

Well, it was successful since there were no complications.

Good news for Lakers fans. Part of that surgery was exploratory, so it's good that nothing major was found.
Bynum will come back just fine and be a great backup to Gasol.

30 minute surgery to clean up a bit of debris is nothing to warrant some of the remarks here.
