If you could take one of the following types of players with the #1 pick who would you be inclined to take?

Star PGs
-----------
Chris Paul
Deron Williams

Star SGs
-----------
Brandon Roy
Andre Iguodala

Star SFs
-----------
Lebron James
Carmello Anthony

Star PFs
-----------
Amare Stoudemire
Al Jefferson

Star Centers
----------
Dwight Howard
Andrew Bynum

I think conventional wisdom has teams going for size, but, I have to think that if you can get a guy like a Deron or Paul it'd be hard to pass up.

I know everyone is going to be tempted to just say Lebron, but, try not to think of it as players and instead as types of players. You aren't just picking the best name off this list, you are more thinking about what type of player you'd take.

Playing devil's advocate...

What has Dwight accomplished as far as team results? His teams regular season record wasn't that good and he didn't have much success in the playoffs all this despite playing in the weak Eastern conference.

Are you saying that you'd take the best 'beast' type player and hope that you can get him to develop his game?

Are these the choices? If they are I think i'd take Lebron pretty easily. He's not easy to build around, but how could you pass up a guy who just won the scoring title, took his team to the second round, took the celts to 7 games, and took his team to the finals the year before.

Usually though, you go with the big. I still think that's the way to go. If we are excluding Lebron, I take Dwight then Paul, I really don't think any of the other choices even come close.

When dwight first arrived the Magic were a garbage team
they've improved year-by-year and this last year they won 52 games
and made it to the 2nd round before losing to the experienced Pistons
I predict they keep improving and make it to the ECF next season

Just curious but who would you take over him? Excluding Lebron of course. Because, to be fair to Dwight, he doesn't have the team around him that Paul, Amare, Deron, or Melo have around them. So you really can't compare team success.

Refering to your second post. I'd probably take the PG. But it all depends on how much you think the player could improve.

I would take the power foward based on the 25 ppg and 11 rpg...thats superstardom right there.. but then again thats on paper...he could be a bum or even worse SMOKE WEED. if he was a model citizen than i would def take the power foward.

A 25/10 PF that plays no D? Sounds more like Zach Randolph to me.

Usually I'd go center every time, but in this case I'd take LeBron. I don't see Howard or Bynum as one of those rare dominant bigs. LeBron is the best player on that list and has the greatest impact on the game.

In terms of type of player, you go for the dominant big, but there isn't one of those on that list, so I'd go with the star wing player who can also create for others (LeBron).

uhm, if what your saying is he hasn't accomplished anything, then you can argue that about all these players. None of them have won a championship. LeBron is the only one to make it to the finals, and he got swept there. None of the other players have been to the finals. So I think your just hating on Dwight if your going to question "what he's done" when LeBron is the only one to make it to the finals.

I don't get it, you make a topic to see people's opinion on choosing which position they would build around yet the first person that posts with a different opinion than yours, you attack?
