Dallas to hold 2010 All-Star weekend?

Post#1 » by Texas Longhorns » Wed May 28, 2008 7:12 pm

Sources claim that the Mavericks and Cowboys are teaming up to court the 2010 NBA All-Star Weekend, according to The Dallas Morning News.

No bid has been submitted, and all that has been done at this point is the initial stage of exploring options, but the unique pairing has NBA officials interested.

"It's important to me to find a venue that can support all of our season ticket-holders and all of the visitors who would come to Dallas for the game," Mark Cuban said by e-mail. "We are exploring all of our options."

Wow, so if they do get it, it will be like that one year in the 80's in Houston where the ASG was played in the Astrodome (football stadium). That would be cool.

Wow, I didnt know the new cowboys stadium could be used as an arena...in fact ive never heard of that ever...that's crazy

Does that mean the mavericks will share that arena/stadium with the cowboys permanently or stay in the AAA arena?

They could choose to use either, at least I think they can. I don't know if there's any rules from the NBA for that. They would make much more money though if they used the Cowboys stadium.

I really hope it doesn't get awarded to another Southwestern city. The Eastern Conference hasn't hosted one since 2003 and many Midwestern and Northeastern cities haven't gotten bids for quite a long time: Milwaukee (1977), Chicago (1988), Detroit (1979), Boston (1964).

And, fwiw, four cities (Portland, Toronto, Memphis, and Sacramento) haven't even hosted one yet.

I think they should hold in an International city.

I don't understand why Miami hasn't hosted an ASG, yet?

We've had something like 20 Superbowls, but not even 1 ASG?

Former Maverick Owner Ross Perot Jr. negotiates the AAA deal and spends $100's of millions developing the area around AAA and Cuban wants to bring the NBA all star game to Arlington, TX??

Nice. Ross doesn't have much of an ego, so I'm sure he won't take it personally. Did anyone else know that Perot is the proud owner of a Russian MIG fighter jet. Keep an eye on the sky Cuban and Jones.

Wasn't the Astrodome primarily a baseball stadium? I mean, it was called the Astrodome and not the Oilerdome, right?

Seriously? The Timberwolves played in the Metrodome in their early years.

Houston Oilers (AFL/NFL) (1968-1997)
Houston Astros (MLB) (1965-1999)
Houston Cougars (NCAA) (1965-1997)
Houston Gamblers (USFL) (1984-1985)
Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo (1966-2003)
Houston Energy (WPFL) (2002-2006)
Houston Texans (WFL) (1974)
Houston Hurricane (NASL) (1978-1980)
Bluebonnet Bowl (NCAA) (1968-1984, 1987)
Houston Bowl (NCAA) (2000-2001)
1971 Final Four
The 1968 and 1986 Major League Baseball All-Star Games were held here, as was the 1989 NBA All-Star Game.

Those were all the major things that happened in the Astrodome.

like cuban gives a **** about the last owner, the only reason we havent had an all star game in the new arena is b/c cuban cares about the fans. he's smart enough to realize his season ticket holders will get tossed from there seats if they host the ASG. but the new cowboys stadium will be massive and able to accomodate everything so it will suit the nba and there corporate people along with the season ticket holders.

honestly think before you type dumbass, and its not the AAA its the AAC

If an arena is so ugly that other buildings with huge televisions screens are built to hide it, does it really matter whether it's an arena or a center?

Ross Perot Jr. is one of those season ticket holders Cuban is supposedly so concerned about. I'm sure all of the season ticket holders are excited about watching an NBA game in a massive football stadium, what a great idea!

I see what you are, a Cuban basher....how can you possibly bash the man for trying to accomadate fans. Its either they move it to the cowboys stadium and allow all season ticket holders to attend and many others that arent corporate sponors, etc or stay at the AAC and have season ticket holders get the shaft bc all the tickets are taken up by the NBA

Look, just because your team's owner sucks doesn't mean that all NBA owners suck. There may be quite a few things wrong with the Mavs but our owner sure isn't one of those things. I don't know any other owners in the NBA as passionate about their teams as Cuban. So to accuse Cuban of not caring for Mavs fans is just stupid. The whole idea of not having the ASG in the AAC is so that we can fit more people as stud said which shows that Cuban cares more, not less.

As for the suitability of the Cowboys' arena, I haven't heard any negative comments about it, have you? Don't go around make stupid baseless allegations of our owner being crap.
