a question for the conspiracy theorists...

Some people say that the lakers/celtics is a given by the league and other conspiracy theories. This thread is not to question that, I am just wondering in your mind how is this done? So for example, if the lakers are being chosen over the Spurs how is that communicated to the refs and from whom? Also who decides it's the lakers? Stern? Does Stern tell the ref outright that lakers are to win? Or is it implied? How do you think it is done?
This is a serious question.

whether it's done or not, I was just asking how they think it's done.

Probably implied. Ref's have meetings... Bigger market teams mean more viewers which means more ad's.

I am not really sure.

If you're looking for a conspiracy, I'd look at the fact that Boston suddenly went from worst to first in one year, and the fact that KG was acquired from an ex-Celtic buddy and teammate, McHale.

Not saying that it was collusion, but it looks bad. And that had a much bigger impact than anything the refs could do. The refs can only nudge. That trade was a kick in the pants.

EDIT: Plus the Lakers got Gasol for a similarly paltry return.

It could also just be that McHale and Wallace are idiots, though, and a conspiracy is not required.

I guess in the same secret meeting in which the who refs what games is decided. Nobody knows how officials are chosen for games. So its ok that nobody knows how games are rigged.

Advertising revenue alone wouldn't make someone rig the enitre league and anyone who actually believes that the owners that run these multi million dollar clubs would allow such a thing to spoil thier chances are just being extremely ignorant. A ref like Donaghy can effect a game but the "tainted league" conspiracy is a joke.

if that's the case then why did we get pistons vs spurs in 05? or cavs vs spurs in 07?

The Garnett trade was a win-win for both teams. Boston became a title contender but Minnesota got back a young star like Al Jefferson plus a few other prospects, so they now have a chance to rebuild.
The Memphis GM on the other hand **** up.

Notice how no one can answer any of that? It's because no one actually thinks there is a conspiracy, they just say there is one to make an excuse for their team that lost already.

The Celtics have been screwed by the draft lottery on two occasions. Maybe McHale felt bad for the team.

Indeed, if the league is rigged, why would the NBA allow the Spurs, in one of the smallest/least important markets in the league, to win the lottery not once but twice with sure-fire franchise centers available?

People who seriously believe this crap just need to quit watching. I mean, if you honestly think it's all set up, why waste your time?

honestly for those who believe the league is trying to set up a BOS-LA finals need to watch the ECF. The Celtics are getting 20 percent of the calls and im in a generous mood tonight.

possibly an ear peace where stern influences which team gets the call prior to a play during clutch situations. cavs vs sa could also have been rigged to promote lebron james.

rigging games only occurs when the risk is high enough, in this case with lakers kobe facing of against bostons big three would be worth the risk. furthermore, meh

who cares really i enjoy the games and the talent and if they want me to see boston-la final then who am i to argue with THEM

I think you mean rigging happens when the REWARD is high enough...

I don't know. I am just throwing it out there... playing a little devil's advocate.

It would be way too difficult to fix every single game. IF they do it (which i very highly doubt they do) I would imagine that it is a few select games here and there but more than anything that certain superstars have more leeway with giving fouls and receiving them.

unless you are an insider there really would be no way to know. that's why I asked, One: I was hoping maybe an insider could shed light if such a thing is happening or how it could be happening and two: I wanted to make people who say these things about conspiracies think concretely about how it could be taking place.

I guess the real question should be how is it done in boxing and other sports where we know it is going on? That might shed some light on the nba IF there is any to shed.
