Why don't they bring this back? I just read about it and it seemed like a great concept. With European teams getting much better since the 90s, maybe it would be a lot more interesting this time.

They did have a couple of very close games back in the old days too, I remember the Knicks only beat Pesaro in OT and the Lakers just squeezed past Badalona.

The preseason games just aren't good enough because most of the NBA teams give their starters minimal minutes. A tourney like this with something to play for would be great.

If they brought the champs of various leagues together and paid them a proo-rated salary for the amount of games played, it might work once a Euro team beat the NBA champs once.
Because I guarantee NBA players won't care until then, so the year after they lose will be the first time it becomes "real".

Does anyone know why they dropped it in the first place? Aside from possible US dominance?

Once the Euro team competes, the NBA team will destroy them.

I don't see how its different from the NBA Europe tour.

Because this is a tournament and the NBA guys have something to play for (a championship). Thus, the stars could log real minutes unlike the minutes they get on the NBA Europe tour.

they should make the McDonald's championship the NBA equivalent of the NIT in college basketball.
teams that don't make the playoffs can compete in the McDIT (catchy name) and give their fans something to cheer about in between the regular season and the draft.
think of it: a chance to compete for the real world championship title instead of the phony one they give to the NBA champ.
what lottery team isn't going to jump at the chance?

Sounds like the NHL when teams don't make the playoffs or get eliminated early.
