If J. Oneal were to opt out of his deal, what is he worth??

Post#1 » by InsideInfo » Mon Jun 2, 2008 12:21 am

I understand that it is a very slim chance that Oneal would opt out of the final 2 years of his deal that will pay him just over 44 million dollars. But if oneal is really serious about getting out of Indi he just might.

What is Oneals worth as an unresticted FA?

More next season as most teams are looking to save cap space
Best he could do this year is sign a 1 year mle prove he's healthy again then sign multi year deal at 10-11million per

O'Neal would be dumb to opt out of his deal. With his injury history over the last 4 years he's worth about half (or even less) of what he's making.

I think a 15 Million Dollar deal with particular guaranteed salary is very likely .

Lets say 5 year 75 Million Dollar and 2 years fully guaranteed . When he manages to play lets say 65 games in the first year the 3rd years becomes guaranteed , 65 in the 2nd forth and so on .

Are you JO's agent?

I wouldn't give him 10 mil a year for any extended period of time and don't see too many GM's doing the same.

No i'm not but this is what i would be willing to offer. 7 Million per year less then what his current contract gives him . If healthy he's one of the best two way forwards/centers in the game and def. worthy it considering what guys like Zach Randolph , Antawn Jamison and many more get .

This contract wouldn't be a big risk for the team . 30 Million instead of the 44 he's currently guaranteed. Maybe you make the contract that his last ( unguaranteed ( years are paid better of smt, but if he manages to play 65 games a year and stays without bigger problems ( of course before you offer a contract like that you have to take a very very close look on his knee ) he's helping his team tremondously .

he's gonna be 30 in oct and his game has declined in the past few yrs plus he's a huge injury risk, no gm is gonna give him 15 mil a yr

it's gotta be 10 mil or less. the guy has been injured way to often and it's a big distraction for a team and it's players to have to worry about whether he can play, is gonna be 100%, etc etc

Even healthy, you could argue that he isn't even a top 5 PF/C

I agree.... even when healthy, he shoots an absolute pathetic percentage for a bigman.

I can't tell whether you're being serious or not, but that's just ridiculous.

Some team would give him a huge contract. He's one of the best defenders in the league I'd argue right up there with KG. If he's healthy, he can give you 18-21 ppg, 9-11 rpg, and 2-3 apg to go with it. He's such an impactful player, that some team would be willing to throw a huge wad of cash at him, even with his injury history. He'd be making eight-figures per season, I can guarantee you that. Look at what broken down Ben Wallace and washed up Peja Stojakovic got in the past few offseasons, for example. The free agent market is limited, GM's would rather shell out big $$$ than walk away empty handed.

Gimme a break with this MLE crap. Guys like Rasho, Nazr and Pyrzbilla sign for the MLE. Big men are almost always overpaid and there would most certainly be a market for JO. You can argue it would be a mistake (and you might be right) but some team would most definitely be willing to overpay for his services.

4 years, $55-60 mil. 4th as a team option and some bonuses worked in there for games played and/or certain statistical benchmarks.
