draft position = superstar calls?

Post#1 » by SunTzuMachiavelli » Mon Jun 2, 2008 11:19 pm

how much value would you put on draft position for a player on the court? does being the number one pick make the ref blow his whistle when you cut into the paint your rookie year? does hype play a factor? If you took a good player who was drafted late and drafted him first would the calls make him a superstar instead of just a good player?

Rookies usually aren't superstars, expect in rare cases. So I wouldn't say the no.1 draft picks get the calls the majority of the time (like Kobe, TD, Wade, LeBron etc) because they have yet to fully prove themselves.

Andrea Bargnani has averaged slightly over two free throw attempts per game for his career. So no, draft position alone does not make a large influence on the refs decisions.

Rookies don't get special treatment unless you're coming in as a Lebron James.

he also shot from the paint aggressively twice his whole career.Even If you wanted to blow the whistle in his favor it's going to be very hard to do that. Bargs only gets hype from being the number one pick though, if he had any post/defensive game at all i think he's a star right now.

What I'm saying in this thread is that I wonder if a player like Danny Granger, Tayshaun Prince, Felton, ETC would be viewed as a superstar right now if they came in with superstar hype. Would the hype carry over into calls, that would carry into points, Which would carry into hype, ETC?

Yeah, why isn't Bargnani getting his superstar calls?

because he's strictly a jumpshooter and he couldn't get whistles if they wanted to give him some.

Makes no difference as far as i've seen. (aside from lebron)
