as I've said many times, they're extremely overrated IMO..well last night, I was watching Best Damn Sports Show, and one of the hosts on the show is John Salley..this is a former NBA player that a number of Kobe fans here on RealGM have used as an example of someone making Kobe's greatness more valid..

last night, Gary Payton was one of the guest hosts..the question was if Kobe is better than MJ..Payton said that he couldn't even compare them right now, because MJ led a team to 6 rings and the usual argument..John Salley's counter argument was.."is MJ better than Dr.J?"..Payton: "yes..".."how can he be better than Dr.J if Dr.J came first? there wouldn't be an MJ without Dr.J"..he was also naming players that could be better than MJ, and he mentioned Karl Malone and Kevin McHale. among others that don't belong with MJ..

ridiculous..also, if anyone ever watches the show, you'd see that John Salley has little knowledge about other players..

you throw in guys like Shaq and Barkley that make outrageous comments all the time and add in the fact that many players have agendas..how are we supposed to take NBA players opinions as some Holy talk, when so many of them make ridiculous comments about others and have agendas?..overvalued opinions?..

Just because a player played in the league doesn't mean he will have an intelligent opinion, even if it is about basketball.

When comparing Jordan and other players to one another, you have to be able to differentiate basketball skill vs basketball accomplishments.

For example, Pistol Pete played on bad teams, but he is one of the better guards to ever play. Team accomplishment-wise, he didn't do anything overly outstanding, but he is still considered a great player.

Bill Walton had an injury-plagued career, but was on championship teams and gets a big benefit of the doubt when he is ranked all-time.

LOL he said Karl Malone and Kevin McHale? And that Dr. J argument is weak. I hate when people use the "player x wouldnt be here if there was never player y, so how can he be better" argument. Because if that was the case, I guess James Naismith must be the greatest basketball player ever by far cause he freaking invented the sport.
