As a Hawks' fan, I have a feeling there will be more than enough teams interested in Josh Childress at the MLE. I'm interested to see what S&T offers are made to Atlanta, because a 5 -yr. MLE deal gets matched without regret.

Serious question: who's Dorrell Wright? And why does he deserve 47 million dollars over 4 years?

Ben Gordon at 5/49 is overpaying, but J.R Smith 2/15 is reasonable?

I disagree. Ben is truely undervalued by a lot of people. He's viewed as a chucker, but took less than 15 attempts a game last season. His man-to-man defense has improved to a point where he is now an average defender.

He's an amazing shooter, and spreads the floor very well. I think 5/49 is very reasonable. At least when you compare that to J.R Smith getting 2/15..

Wright is an athletic SF from Miami, who doesn't deserve $47M. He's got upside, but is likely going to become a role player/starter at best.

Ben Gordon is a SG in a PG body. For that simple reason alone, it is so hard to fit him into a starting lineup. And that's while he will always be worth less than a guy 6'6 who puts up the same numbers. And size has always been important in this league.

Close to 10 million for 5 years is a big commitment for a guy who I think is very one dimensional. He doesn't have enough size at his position. You are forced to play undersized or you have to protect him on D by having other players guard his man.

7.5 million for 2 years is very reasonable given that he is young and is a legit two guard. Hell, he is good trade bait at that price unlike Gordon at basically 10 million dollars per year.

I wouldn't mind paying Gordon 5/50.

Well I don't think a player like Gordon should make more than a guy like Manu Ginobilli.

As long as the contract is insured, I would give Okafor $78M over 6 years and then run to the hills. The only player for which the given amount would be "way overpaying"? Come on...

Biedrins, Gordon and Deng all seem fine. It's Wright and JR Smith who give me issues. Most of those aren't bad.

I agree $12.5m a year average starting at about $10m and finishing at about $15m is a good deal.

I think the majority of the guys are being overpaid. There aren't alot of teams with money this year and the trend has been for teams to be conservative with what they offer. So most teams will be bidding against themselves for these free agents.

Manu is also underpaid.

At least by my account. He's averaging around $9M a year, right? His true value would be between $11M - $13M a year. He's just an awesome, awesome player who could be a 25 PPG scorer if he was getting 36-38 MPG. Add the fact that plays good defense, rebounds and passes the ball decently and I say you guys have a bargin at your hands.

Re: Gordon.

We've had no problem with him starting. The defense argument that is thrown around is really not that big of a factor at all. When someone tries to back him down, they usually don't succeed anyway due to his strenght. It's also mostly the premier players who gets shots off over him; Carter, Kobe, Ginobili, Joe Johnson etc. And they basically get their shot off over everybody anyway. You don't see them hitting a higher percentage against Chicago.

Keep in mind that Hinrich isn't alwasy guarding the 2-guard. When we've played Duhon/Gordon back-courts, we've had to put Ben on 2-guards when we needed strong players to keep them out of the paint. This has actually been succesful. Not elite obviously, but very acceptable.

I also don't understand the one-trick pony criticts. Is being a scorer also being a one-trick pony? By my account a one-trick pony is a guy who does one thing, and just that one thing; Shooting, rebounding, bloocking shots. But Gordon has more in his offensive arsenal that just shooting. He can create off the bounce, play off the ball much like Richard Hamilton and is also an excellent spot-up shooter.

I'd pay 5/50 for him every day of the week. I've yet to understand why the general public doesn't like him. He's by far the most professional player on the team when it comes to handle the media and his approach to working out and keeping in shape. Ask any Bulls fans, and they'll say Ben treats his body like a temple and is the hardest worker on the Bulls by a mile.

(By the way, I wasn't referring to you not liking him BR. I remember you once said otherwise. I was referring to those people who consider him a chucker and bad defender. None of which is true, and hasn't been true since his rookie season)

I don't think I'd give Okafor that contract. He hasn't improved that much on offense, and staying healthy is a big factor. Maybe 70 over 6 years, but he hasn't shown that he's worth 12 or more a year. Yea, yea, I know bigs always get paid.

My thing is that I would be reluctant to give a guy that amount of money if he is not able to significantly contribute in more than one area. It is just my personal belief. What happens when you have a bad shooting night? What else can you do to make up for that shortcoming that night? You can pass, defend, hell go to the line and make a difference. I don't think he does that enough. I think he regressed this past year and it is hard to justify a 10 million dollar contract after a bad year. Example to illustrate would be to just compare his FTA and his 3FGA's this past year and the year before. I don't follow the Bulls regilously but I did notice that Ben didn't attack the basket as much, and was much more of an outside shooter than usual. He has this nice little effective teardrop and can* get to the rim but is seemed to me that he settled too much. It is not to say that Gordon is* a bad player. He is a remarkable scorer and shooter but it is alot of money to just fork over in my opinion who I think settled too often for my likening.
