It's just because it is in Boston. That court looks foggy.

picture quality-wise yes, why?
If you care about picture quality only, TNT HD> ABC HD on that category. TNT is brodcast under 1080I (1920x1080 interlaced) picture resolution mode, it has more details because of the higher resolution. ABC broadcast under 720P (1280x720 Progressive Scan), however, 720P has the advantage over 1080I in term of watching live games due to the reason that 720P runs at consistent 60 frames per second and 1080I only run at 30 frames per second. You will notice significant "slowness" and "motion lag" by watching live games under interlaced resolution. 720P > 1080I for live games.
Other facts might be equipment their using, you local area (or cable company) broadcasting quality, your TV setting, lights............

however, the upconverting makes it look worse

Yes...
The best HD in sports comes from HBO in my opinion.

Totally agree. The weird thing is that ESPN HD looks pretty good to me. I also love HBO HD like Rasho said. Fox Sports is just the worst.

Yeah it was real crappy for me today. It was all choppy too. Hopefully it'll be better in LA.

Does it freeze regularly for a few seconds at a time for anyone else during commercials and timeouts and whenever the game isn't being played?

Altogether i think abc has the lowest HD quality out of the main channels i get. i have abc on 210 and cbs on 211 and the difference is dramatic. cbs, hbo, tnt, espnhd > abc
does it have anything to do with the quality of cameras used?
