What's with the home/away reffing discrepancy?

Post#1 » by The Notic » Mon Jun 9, 2008 1:21 pm

No I do not have stats to back up my claims. No I have not been watching the games intently nor watching replays to back up my initial observations. Just something casual I've noticed this year that didn't really stick out to me in years previous (where I did watch intently).

Discuss.

Well, the Celtics are a great defensive team, they can defend without fouling constantly. The Lakers are a hopeless defensive team.

10 free throws is ridiculous. Against the Hawks, the Celtics did nothing but take jumpshots and were still shooting more than that.

If the Celtics can play D without fouling, what happened against the Hawks? I'll wait for your "conspiracy" answer.

Atlanta was aggressive and forced Boston to foul them.

I agree, we had to attack the basket because we can't shoot very well. But I guess I was addressing the other guys comment more.

Newflash: Teams get more calls at home than on the road.

Pretty much, I would not be surprised if the Lakers get similar benefits at home. I'm not a conspiracy believer, but it is true there were just too many home calls in this playoffs

So were the Lakers in game 2. They simply did not get the calls.

Celtics:
45 perimeter shots
23 shots in the key
38 free throws

Lakers:
42 perimeter shots
41 shots in the key
10 free throws

I mean i feel this is just another sign that they need to ditch the entire reffing thing, and start over. i mean it is really horrible that the difference between between home and away has been so giant this entire post-season.

I mean I really shouldn't have to be feeling that the best thing about the lakers coming back to the staples center is refs. i should be more excited about going to a game, but nope. i am happier that we get home refs.

I am the only one who sees the problem there

Celtics fans trying to justify the foul discrepancy in Gm2 sound as (Please Use More Appropriate Word) as the Laker fans who try to justify the Gasol deal as being fair.

The Lakers fanbase takes the cake for the most bitching about officials after game in the HISTORY of realgm.

This is ridiculous.

True you never hear them cry when they take 20 more free throws against everyone else and always get the close calls. Oh and do not get me started with them just being handed Gasol to even get this far.

I am whole heartedly pulling for Garnett to get a ring, but the officiating this post-season has been atrocious.

Boston got away with looe ball fouls in every single game vs the Hawks in the Garden. It was an absurd advantage.

Last night Lamar Odom got at least 3 And 1's with no calls. Gasol was fouled on an alley hoop, he was fouled on the Garnett facial, it was just really embarassing how the refs swallowed the whistle on that side of the court.

It's not like the Lakers were just taking jumpers either.

The home/away discrepancy is alarming. When my team gets calls at home, I just think, "Tough, but that's the way it goes."

I want to pissed that the C's have gotten so many more calls, but figure that things will swing our way at the Staples Center

I got the same feeling from this year.

While the series are closer because of it (homecooking), I feel like the games have not been.

Boooooringgggg.

Game 1 of the Suns/Spurs being the exception.
