Coach K is in love with Melo, so he's a lock. Not sure of Kobe/Brand are still in, but I'd say they take something like that and add two role players.
PG: Paul/Deron?
SG: Kobe?/Joe Johnson
SF: Lebron/ Melo
PF: Brand?/Bosh?
C: Howard/Amare

Kidd out? We need shooters a la Miller or Redd as well.
I don't like Joe Johnson in there. Most would probably suggest Wade despite injuries. Sadly Melo starts over Lebron at SF. He's a more dominant "scorer".
I believe the final Starting roster would be...
Kobe
Deron
Melo
Howard
Amare

Kidd is needed. He's perfect for LeBron's actual game.

Care to elaborate?
I think Kidd serves as a great locker room presence, as well as strong leadership. As far as actual ability to beat up the opposing team.. Paul and Deron is better than him at that.

AND
-chris paul
-chris bosh

everyone else isnt in the mix according to colangelo.

Kidd can throw a lob from far away and doesn't need drible out hte ball to set up people. He recognize the pass without the ball in his hands, in the all star game this was really accentuated. LeBron just loved those fast break lobs and sudden passes from kidd's catch and pass. Did i mention that he plays great man to man defense. So basically, kidd is a guy that utilizs leBron's athletic ability the most manily because he is experienced and deosn't need the ball in his hands for a long time to set up the pass. Probably best pg to have for a team full of stars that likes to hold on to the ball and create by themselves.

Can you imagine what this 12 would do?
Chris Paul / Deron Williams
Kobe Bryant / Michael Redd / Ray Allen
Lebron James / Josh Howard
Tim Duncan / Amare Stoudemire
Dwight Howard / Marcus Camby / Tyson Chandler

I think you'll see Deron, Kobe, Melo, James and Howard as the starters, with Paul, Kidd, Wade, Amare, Bosh, Redd, and Prince as the backups.
The thing I like about this roster is almost everyone (Paul and Kidd excepted) can play multiple positions, so the team will be able to exploit matchups regardless of who other countries put on the floor.
I also like the fact that for the most part, the shooters are all multi-dimentional. Kobe, Deron, and Wade can all go to the hoop but you have respect their jumper at all times. I'm also curious to see how Paul's game translates to the international arena.
If he can stay out of foul trouble, I expect Dwight Howard to be the MVP, because there is no international player that can match up with him on either end of the floor.

Paul replaces Kidd.
Wade replaces Tayshaun
Starting:
Paul
Kobe
LeBron
Melo
Chandler
Bench:
Billups/Deron
Wade
Miller/Johnson
Amare
Dwight
We'll need Chandler to play well and hopefully bringing in Paul will help him with his offensive game.
We need him as he'll be the best post defender and I don't want to see Sofoklis Schortsanitis abusing Dwight again.

It's amazing the lack of respect Melo gets on this board, he has been in the top 2 players in each of the last two years for Team USA, and yet some are still talking about him being the 8th or 9th man, and a couple don't even want him on the team. It's no wonder this board has lost so much credibility over the years.

Battier is rehabbing now
he said he's not playing in the Olympics
i believe Portland is not allowing Oden to even go to the training camp

Jason Kidd will be picked over Chris Paul IMO. I think because he hasn't lost a game overseas yet and his chemistry from last year will get him the starting job. CP3 will most likely be his back up.
