Like I've said in other posts, I think people are going overboard with the all this conspiracy talk, I think some allegations are baseless, but at the same time I think that some of the defenses that are being offered are flimsy.

However, I think the one thing that we can all agree on is that this is completely on the lap of David Stern. Regardless of whether or not the allegations are true or not, it's completely his fault that the Donaghy stories are being taken seriously. He's done a terrible job at keeping things transparent and explaining reasons why there are such a discrepancy in foul calls or why some questionable calls took place. It's the secrecy of the NBA regarding the refereeing that lead to this story happening in the first place.

I think there should be loud and repeated chants of "FIRE STERN" throughout the remainder of the NBA Finals and the NBA Draft this year.

This has been posted a lot but I say yes again. He needs to be gone.

It won't matter, Stern already has his protege lined up to replace him whom hes been grooming for a long time.

Long answer:

I think that every issue that has been brought to the league's attention has been dealt with accordingly. Like flopping. They have agreed to do something about it next year. The players didn't like the new ball, they canned it. Crawford was suspended the rest of the season for picking on Duncan. Donaghy was fired. Miami was allowed a do-over of their game against the Hawks (not the league's fault Shaq wasn't available).

I do agree something else needs to be done about the inconsistency in calls but it will never be totally resolved. When a foul is called with .5 seconds left, people cry "LET THEM PLAY!" But if they don't call a foul, people say it was a blown call. And when the league comes out and amit to bad calls(like the Pierce offensive foul) everyone talks about how stupid it made them look.

Also, alot of fans who complain about the discrepancy in calls don't feel that way when it's their team that seems to be benefiting. Most fans feel like superstars should get calls that role players don't. This is something that even the coaches and the media seem to support. Another reason I think there is often a discrepancy in calls is that some teams are just more aggressive. They take it to the hole more and they force the refs to make calls. They don't give calls to guys that lay it up soft or who are fading away when they shoot. That's shying away from contact.

I think there will be bad calls forever and ever on any level of basketball, but rarely do I think it's the result of some conspiracy and rarely does it decide the outcome of a game. I think that a team's inability to rebound, failure to hit freethrows, failure to convert off of turnovers, turning the ball over too much, going on long offensive droughts, having defensive meltdowns, and incompetent coaching all cause more losses than poor officiating.

I think the best thing for this league is to have a coach's challenge sort of like the NFL's but these challenges should allow the refs to review their calls. Maybe 3 challenges for each team and they should be totally disconnected from the regular time outs so that they don't lose them if they're wrong.

I also think it's important to remember that this game is played at a very fast pace and when something happens, refs have to make a decision in a split second.

I think Stern has done everything he can do to make this league attractive to fans worldwide. People joke about the NBA cares idea but I think it's great because franchises are becoming more than just businesses. They're part of the community. He's brought along the D-League and the WNBA (whether you like it or not). The NBA is definitely more popular outside the US than the NFL is. No one is perfect but I think Stern has done an outstanding job.

If the league wants to restore its credability, Stern must be fired.

Huh? Stern isn't a dictator. He serves as long the owners want him.
The owners will decide who the next commissioner is, not Stern.

All the Stern bashing is somewhat ridiculous in my opinion.
He gets plenty of advice from the owners before he makes a decision. He certainly doesn't make decisions in a vacuum. He's more or less a puppet of the owners.

I don't think we can strip the Lakers of their title. It's not like it was their fault, or the result of something they did, you know? Its not like the Patriots....

i think the raptors/ philly game in 01' was rigged and the raptors should've gone on to win the title. look how badly carter was pushed and shoved with no calls.

Come on... Who is going to fire him? The owners appointed him, and under his direction has made the league a ton of money. The league is far more lucrative than anyone could have predicted when he took over.

Owners aren't going to get rid of him as long as the league is making so much money. THe only way he isn't commisioner any more is if he decides to resign.

Thats the problem that started all this. Money and greed. It got to the point that the NBA supposedly fixed games to extend a series to make even more money or get a more desirable team to advance to make more money.

I know sports are a business but in fairness to all the people that pump the billions of dollars into sports its only fair that integrity of the game come before profits. Obviously that is wishful thinking in this capitalist society.

Its this 'get money first' attitude that has compromised the integrity of the NBA. But the owners, or Stern don't care about that. Just us fans and the players that play the game they love. Too bad the league can't be run by people who have the same love for the game.
