According to RealGM wiretap:

That would have been quite a fair deal in my eyes...

that would have made it worse for the grizzlies.

they wanted cap space, not an under achiever taking up 12 mil per year. If that was the case, they would of just stuck with Gasol.

I'm just saying that this is the reason, the trade was so lopsided.

If it was Odom + picks for Gasol, nobody would be crying about the trade... because that looks fair on paper.

But it turned out that Memphis was the one, who wanted the expirers instead of Odom.

yeah, to people that don't know what they're talking about it would have looked better.

grizzlies trading pau gasol was a move for the future. moves for the future involve getting younger players, not older ones (odom is older). moves for the future also involve getting some financial relief (kwame 9 mil expiring vs lamar's 27 mil 2 yr deal).

Moves for the future involve getting rid of overpaid soft big men who don't rebound, not taking on a new one.

This was known at the time the deal took place. Lakers also tried a deal where Odom and Mike Miller were involved, but Memphis rejected it.

This was not a move for the future. It was strictly a financial move and not influenced by any sound basketball reasoning whatsoever. The owners simply wanted to slash payroll so they could present the team to potential purchasers as a blank canvas.

people need to stop defending this move as if it made sense.....Crittenton is a mid-first rounder, hes not some amazing young talent. And those 1st rounds picks are a given that theyd be late picks..pretty much borderline 2nd round picks.

And no i dont believe in conspiracies..i just feel the guy is either a really bad GM or a GM with motives other than winning($$$$)

That's it right there. Also Van Gundy summed it up very well when he criticized Memphis and stated the Lakers gave up their 3rd string PG and two late first round picks (high 20s) for an all star big man.

I do think the deal was heavily favored in our direction, and I'd never make it had I been the Memphis GM. Having said that, Marc Gasol would probably be a late lotto pick this year, so add that to the mix. He could turn out to be a decent player should he come over. He did set a new all time record for most weekly MVP awards this season in the Euroleague (busting up the old record set by Sabonis).

Hindsight is 20/20. No matter what Marc Gasol turns into, at the time of the deal he was a spare part throw in.

fine then, I hope you don't bash the KG deal because a lot of peole thought Gerald Green would be a legit NBA superstar

It actually does matter what he turns into. Memphis obviously thought he was a decent prospect.

At least someone is telling it like it is.

Garnett was traded for 2 fist rounders, Telfair (young PG), and Ryan Gomes..that alone is close to being on par with what the Lakers gave Memphis...thats WITHOUT counting Al Jefferson, who averaged 21-11........If you have no choice BUT to trade KG and are pressured to trade him quickly..Mchale pulled off a great deal.

I wanted to let that out for those that compare the Lakers deal to the Celtics deal..
