Pistons' small forward Tayshaun Prince has reportedly been placed on the trade market by executive Joe Dumars, according to The Detroit Free Press.

The rumor initially surfaced in a piece by Chad Ford of ESPN.com.

There are a handful of small forwards that are believed to be on the market including Richard Jefferson (New Jersey), Josh Howard (Dallas), Gerald Wallace (Charlotte), and Prince.

i would imagine they trade rip or rasheed before dangling prince since prince has a cheaper contract and is more of a unique player.

I don't see how the "rumor initially surfaced in a piece by Chad Ford of ESPN.com". Joe said a couple weeks ago that EVERYONE was on the block but Stuckey.

My first thought was, no way, Prince is the younger starter, great all around player, good defender, big glue guy.

then after giving it some thought I realized that Dumars has always been practical in his trades. After seeing his team get run over by Lebron and Pierce the last two years, he may have just said "enough is enough, we need an elite 3". Prince probably has more value because he's under 30 too.

I don't see them having the resources to upgrade that position without getting dangerously thin elsewhere. So Prince gets packaged with... what? And what team is this that's willing to ship out a better player? The only situation I can think of is Prince for Odom, but I'm not sure I'd do that as either team.

The Raps will take prince gladly though. For what, I do not know. :D

The problem with Detroit is that they all have reasonable contracts, so they have to go with a 2 for 1 deal where the 2 are good contributors for what they're being paid to do. Either way Dumars would have to give an arm and a leg to find the right guy.

I want to see how good the Lakers do next year with Odom/Kobe/Bynum/Gasol before I think about wanting Odom traded for Prince or anybody else. Prince has a very nice shot that could really help us out in the playoffs but like I said I want to see what happens next year first.

Why would you ever say somethinglike that?
U must have meant that his shot goes in quite often.. that could be true...

Prince is a good player, but one of the more overrated in the NBA IMO..I don't buy into the hype that he receives, where he can be this #2 option or something if he had a bigger offensive role..he is what he is..

It sounds like to me dumars is looking to acquire a star....rumored to have tried to get melo.

They got nice young depth so I think one of the older vets plus prince would look attractive to a western conference team looking for a push next season.

There is no way dumars would do a multiple player deal to another eastern conference team. How bout rip+tay for tmac. It works in the trade checker and i think it would be a great shakeup for both teams.
Billups
Stuckey
mcgrady
maxiell
Sheed

Skip
Rip
Prince
Scola
Yao

*I am not a fan of either team... apologize if it has been brought up before.

I dont see it happening. The whole magic/pistons series all they talked about was prince becoming the new captain of the team. He was looked like he was developing a very good overall game. I dont know if he gets traded.

Detroit fans are convinced that Prince is worth more than Marion. I don't know how...consult the trade board. It will be hilarious to see them cry disaster if/when the team ever moves Prince for his actual value.

So you get rid of the league's best screen using pick-n-pop shooter, and your most consistent offensive option, package him with a lockdown defender and a good roleplayer to get a *superstar* who hasn't been within 20 feet of the hoop since 2004? McGrady is shooting nearly 40%, and less than 30% on threes, and his defense has fallen way off since he was playing at an MVP-level. Detroit in this deal basically packages two players who, combined, are what T-Mac once was, while getting old and busted TarMac who can't win a playoff series. If you took Rip away from Billups and put another playmaker in that backcourt, Chauncey would be shooting 35% and getting three assists per game. This is a terrible deal for the Pistons.

Joe Dumars looks for winners.

That's because Flip was trying to put Prince at the center of the system for three years when he's really a defensive roleplayer with average but dynamic offensive abilities.

In stretches where Hamilton has been out injured, Prince's role was greatly increased, and he looked pretty darn good. His problem is he's just invisible sometimes when our guards start dominating the ball. When Billups looks to get him involved, he's easily a 16-18 ppg scorer. However, the Pistons are a team that goes for certain matchups, which is why their numbers are skewed and not as bloated as other big name players.

The Pistons will one night attack with Hamilton, the next with Billups, the next with Sheed... when Prince is the focus, he can fill it up. Saying he's JUST a role player is not true at all.

He's a guy every gm in this league would like to have on their team, ultimate team player, great 2 way player. Doesn't necessarily fill up the stat sheet, but he has a presence in every game.

So when one roleplayer was out, he stepped up and looked "pretty good."

So when things "go his way" he gets 16-18ppg. Otherwise he's never broken 15ppg in his career. And his career average is 12ppg.

The Pistons will one night attack with Hamilton, the next with Billups, the next with Sheed... when Prince is the focus, he can fill it up. Saying he's JUST a role player is not true at all.

In what league on earth do the things that you just told me amount to anything more than a roleplayer? Tell me one team in the NBA where Prince would be a star. Please, Flip already spent three seasons trying to get the league's most-balanced eastern conference dynasty to make him the #1 option and it didn't work.
