Sheriff cites language as reason for wanting Shaq's badges back

PHOENIX -- Shaquille O'Neal will lose his special deputy's badge in Maricopa County because of language he used in a rap video that mocks former teammate Kobe Bryant.

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio said the Phoenix Suns center's use of a racially derogatory word and other foul language left him no choice. Arpaio made Shaq a special deputy in January and promoted him to colonel of his largely ceremonial posse earlier this month.

"I want his two badges back," Arpaio told The Associated Press on Tuesday. "Because if any one of my deputies did something like this, they're fired. I don't condone this type of racial conduct."

I don't think this is taking it too far at all. Shaq said a racial word. He is supposed to be a role model. If any cop , white or black, said that on camera, the least would happen is they would be suspended. Most likely fired if someone made enough of a fuss about it.

That is one weak marriage if something someone says 5 years ago ruins it.

BTW, Shaq isn't losing his badge because he insulted Kobe, it is because he used the word ****.

LOL @ 5 years ago..obviously Shaq's marriage could have been screwed a long time ago..that could have been the beginning of the end..obviously Shaq's wife was going to be upset if she hears his teammate talking about how he "pays his other women off"..she isn't as good as the great Vanessa Bryant, who holds their marriage together..she faces the embarrassment of Kobe's off-court activities all the time, but she has the power to ignore it and stay with her husband, probably for her kids..what a great wife and mother..

as a minority, racial sensitivity is so **** overrated..there's a difference between having slaves on your property, not allowing someone to eat in your restaurant because of their skin color..calling someone a racist word with negative context..security at places generalizing you because you're black, or Arab, or whatever..

Shaq used the **** n-word as slang, just like rappers do, and characters in movies do..it's a word of empowerment..big difference..
