Shaun Livingston, Can He Fully Return To The NBA?

Post#1 » by Grinditout » Wed Jul 2, 2008 1:21 pm

So, after about a year and half of rehabilitating his knee after that nasty injury, the Clippers did not resign him and have moved on to Baron Davis.

With Shaun being a free agent now, do you think any teams will take a look at him? and Do you think that he can still become an effective player coming back from his injury?

Any teams will take a look at him? Definitely
Still become an effective player? Possibly
Get a multi-year contract? Never

I would put him in the D-League then call on him for a few multi game contracts and see how he does from there.

Considering teams kept taking chances on Penny Hardaway i cant imagine Livingston not getting any offers

Sadly, I think so too. That injury was the worst I've ever seen.

i think hes got a great chance of coming back to the NBA. He will never be what he could have been before his injury but i can see him in any teams rotation play a few minutes a game.

Livingstons Age <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< Penny's Age.

Doens't mean that he'll be 100% healthy..and doens't mean anything because the injury was so severe...

Pretty much age doesn't really factor into this. I just felt like saying that.

Here's to hoping SL gets his hops and lateral movement back.

I heard he got back to the point where he could dunk now.

but this is the NBA we are talking about, and i highly doubt he makes a return.

but good luck to him

why do you doubt he makes a return?

The only thing that makes me think he cant come back is the fact that he needed to have a big rest b/w his workouts because he was feeling pain on back 2 backs...

If he gets to the point where he plays w/o any pain..he shouldn't have a hard time finding a team that wants him to play for them. he is a smart player and didn't rely on his athleticism @ pg...you see old pg's like darrel armstrong still in the game..if sl can at least run an offense...still shoot...and play decent defense..he's a lock for a LLE.

A young team that doesn't have much to lose right now would be a nice destination on a short term deal. Let's say 2 year contract with the 2nd year being a team option. This should give him the opportunity to see if he could play in the NBA again.

Even a aging team that may want some youth in there or are looking to make their bench deeper. Teams that should look at him.
Pacers, Knicks, Heat, Suns, Bucks, Timberwolves.

Now if a team picks him up on the cheap and he could play and contribute again or even comes back as good as before if not better that would be great. In this situation I would think the Mavs and Lakers.

And, Penny's talent and production prior to injury >>> Livingston's talent and production prior to injury.

Livingston reportedly "comfortably" played a hard-fought one-on-one game with Al Thornton and had no swelling or pain.

He's going to be cheap no matter who wants to try, I don't see the risk if they have the roster spot for any time looking for a guy with great height and vision, outstanding passing abilities...

Livingston is, as mentioned, someone who didn't rely primarily on athleticism but he did have a weak jumper. If he's managed to improve that and is healthy, he should definitely make a return.

Maybe Shaun Livingston and Jay Williams can go on the road together?

Because Shaun is a PG and not really someone that needs to jump and dunk to be effective he could still be effective. He likely will never be a big scorer again but I could see him being good enough to play the PG position. IMO Penny needed his athleticism much more than Shaun. When Penny lost his quickness he was a completely different player.

I think he'll definitely make a return. They should let him play limited minutes in the summer league if his injury is fully healed. It would help him shake off the rust a little bit. Livingston is so talented that he could even be a good player without the jumping ability that he once had. The only thing he has to improve on is his jump shot. Adding muscle will also help.

Livingston lost more than just his jumping ability.. don't forget lateral quickenss and agility.

Jay Williams basically lost all his lateral quickness.. i can see the same for Shaun

Anyone with more detailed knowledge on the situation, is it true that Shaun needs a 90 minute physical therapy/stretching sessions just to get ready before he can start normal game warm ups?

Also, I assume someone will take a chance on him with the LLE.
