Pay Your Respect to Seattle Fans

I personally would like to thank the fans of Seattle for supporting the Sonics for the past 41 years...
I fell in love with the NBA watching the mid 90's Sonics battle with my beloved Lakers for the Pacific Division.

You should post this in the Seattle board, not to clutter up GB.

Lost Angel, I just would like to thank you for your kind words.
God damnit ljp, shut up please. You have no class. Why would this clutter up the General Board? The NBA has lost a HUGE market today..this impacts the NBA more than you'd like to believe. Get off your high horse for about two minutes and think about how loyal Sonics fans are feeling right now. I'm not at all surprised to see you're the first to post in this thread...and your message is 100% insensative at that.

Thank you for everybody's condolences. I too enjoyed all the rivalries with all the times we may have encountered since I have been a diehard fan since I was 6 years old. I used to be a big Mariner fan and a Seahawk fan as well. But over time the Sonics have taken over and they're by far my #1 team in all sports. I don't know what I'm gonna do now that they're gone...

Portland (and Oregon) thanks you for the I-5 rivalry. It will be sorely missed.

I have friends in both Seattle and Portland and both are season ticket holders with their respective teams.
I know this has affected my friend in Seattle greatly.
I congratulate the fans of the Supersonics and in particular the people of Seattle for supporting their team for so many years, it is a credit to you

It must suck living in Oklahoma. I mean seriously, Oklahoma? I wouldn't live there if you gave me a million dollars. Good luck with that.

You averaged over 13,000 fans for a 20 win team with a douche bag owner. You deserved better. The support was always there, but greed and money took away your love. What a terrible outcome.
OKC will be lucky to average 13,000 fans by the end of the season.

As a Jazz fan, I figure I'd make this my first post on Real GM. I remember growing up watching Stockton and Malone battle Kemp and Payton, and how much I despised the Sonics. I remember the films they showed in the old Delta Center of fights between the Jazz Bear and that Chewbacca-looking mascot of yours. R.I.P. Seattle Sonics, you will be missed.
P.S. F David Stern.

this is sad. I'm totally against relocation (unless there is no other way to fix a franchise but it wasn't the case here) because in the end the only people suffering from that are the fans. those who put their heart, faith and enthusiasm into this specific franchise. it only takes a hanful greedy SOBs to destroy a long-time lasting support. this sucks!

I feel for all the fans in Seattle in the state of Washington. Us fans in Houston went through the same ordeal with our Oilers.... same exact feeling. It feels as if you were stabbed in the back. But keep your spirits up high. You will have a new team sooner or later. I just cant wait for the rivalry between the future Sonic team and the OKC team. I know who I will be rooting for.

Lets play a game with hypotheticals shall we?
You have a house that you grew up in. Your parents built this house. You inherited it. All of your childhood was spent here. Now you have a family of your own.
One day the house burns down and everything/everyone inside is completely destroyed.
BUT DON'T WORRY, YOU CAN ALWAYS JUST GO BUY ANOTHER HOUSE RIGHT? IT'LL TOTALLY BE THE SAME.

This sucks for sure. As a Blazer fan I enjoyed the I-5 rivalry. I think the city of Seattle is in pretty good shape to get another team soon. Stern probably doesn't want his buddy Bennett to have to pay an extra 30 million to the city. I would expect one of the following to happen
1. Expansion: Stern wants a team in Vegas, and this is a good way to get one there. He'll add two teams to make it an even 32, then realign. Worst case....2012
2. Stealing a team of your own: Memphis is in bad shape, and it would make sense to have Balmer buy it from them. Either that or refubish the arena and coax them to move. Worst case 2013
It's not an immediate fix, but I think you'll have a team shortly. relativly speaking

Hey people, let me tell ya something here ...............
I realize that most posting on this board - do so based on their emotions . They are sports fans and fans are all about emotion.
But here's ya some facts.
Stern and the BOG never wanted to move the Sonics from Seattle. That's at the bottom of their list of possible solutions to the problems that franchise has had for the past 5 to 7 years.
And I'm not going deeply into those problems. If you really want to get into that area. there's archives at the Seattle Times and the Seattle Post Intelligencer sites that detail everything happened there since before Howard Schultz bought the team.
They have some unique political problems within the City of Seattle and even regionally, as evidenced by their state legislature's refusal to even allocate a small amount of money for any kind of arena remodel or a new arena.
These political problems, that has now led to them losing their NBA team, will only be solved when the people of Seattle - and that includes the Sonics fans who post on this board and in the City - recognize what the real problem is , its their neighbors.
Vilifying David Stern, the NBA, Clay Bennett, and hurling insults at Oklahoma City gets them NOWHERE. You would think they had learned that by now. To continue to avoid the REAL problems with their arena and with their fellow citizens, just delays a solution and makes their problem worse.
Now all you idiots with your emotion based replies, can have at me. Emotion is fine, but it won't pay the bills.

maaaan...the supersonics deserve their team to stay in Seatle if only for that Shawn Kemp dunk against GS Warriors. That dunk alone should have convinced everyone that teh SS need to stay in Seatel. very sad indeed.

This really sucks...As a Nets fan I can sort of relate to this situation...though it is clearly not the same thing, I know how it's going to feel when the team you love leaves your home state. NJ to Brooklyn is definitely not the same as Seattle to OKC but it's costing me season tickets that I got every year since I was 8. I feel for you Sonic fans what a heart breaking situation. I know it won't be the same but I hope the city of Seattle can one day have another NBA team because they really deserve one. This is just terrible news.
