Not a bad idea. Thortnon/Smith/Kaman would make an imposing frontline, and if Diddy doesn't bail, they're not a turrible team.

One less East team to worry about making the post-season.

I wasn't even that high on Josh Smith...and certainly not for replacing Brand but after all that's happened, beggars can't be choosers! :nonono:

step one: steal other players
step two:...
step three: profit

Man this offseason just gets better and better.

Its like a drunk dude playing darts, the harder he aims the more people that get hurt, but its still funny as hell.

Good. Let the Clips offer him big bucks. Let ATL match, spending all of their cash. Then other teams will be free to offer Childress the MLE without the Hawks matching.

Won't happen. The Hawks will match the very next day. As soon as they get the language of the contract to make sure it is not front loaded they will match, Do you think Donald Sterling is really going to front load a contract?

Josh Smith is going to be a Hawk. Why? Because his contract doesn't kick in until 2009-2010. By then, Bibby will be a FA, and the Hawks will just let him walk. A.C. Law will be their starting pg in 2009-2010.

Laugh now, but it's a chain reaction; EVERY TEAM WILL BE AFFECTED, it just happened to start with the Warriors and Clippers. By the end of the offseason Kobe will be on the Bobcats, Steve Nash on the Bulls, Celtics going into rebuilding mode etc. etc. etc.

So do you really think the Hawks are not going to match the MLE for Childress? By the time his contract kicks in Bibby will be a FA, and Claxton will have only one year left on his deal. The Hawks don't have to offer Smith and Childress contracts. Let the rest the league do it for them, and match.

Actually, TheSheriff is right.

Assuming the Clips give Smith $13M, the Hawks will be in the luxury tax if they match an MLE offer for Childress. (Since they would have to add several more players for the minimum to fill out the roster).

The contract would actually kick in this upcoming season.

No he not. Childress, and Smith contract's don't kick in until 2009-2010. If the Hawks renounce Bibby then they clear his cap hold.

If this happens, the Clippers may become the most dysfunctional franchise in NBA history. There's only one ball, and this team may require six just to function. Not to mention, Elgin Baylor is literally trying to send Mike Dunleavy to an early grave. They might be one of the five worst teams in the NBA if they can't push the pace...and that makes Chris Kaman obsolete, and he's their second-best player right now.

It's as though it's written in the bylaws that the Clippers must run inefficiently and at the fan base's expense.
