Michael Beasley vs Media...The Battle Begins? Is he OK?

Post#1 » by MilBucksBackOnTop06 » Thu Jul 10, 2008 9:30 am

Micahel Beasley might end up being a great player but he is JUST HORRIBLE WITH THE MEDIA AND IS A VERY flippant, nonchalant, shoulder shrugging :dontknow: immature kid thrust into the professional ranks way too early for the good of the game and the league.

He is absolutely asinine with the media, laughing giggling and sniggling like a little girl and giving these horrible bored facial expressions and gestures and treats everything like it is a joke.

He says, :dontknow: "it's just basketball man, I played it in high school, I played it in collge, and it's the same concepts and this or that..." and waves his hands dismissively...very very immature.

Didnt they teach him anything at Kansas State and did his agent talk to him about how to conduct himself and answer questions like a man? My goodness. i gringed just watching this NBA.com piece after his Summer League game.

Someone had to tell this kid to stop singing when his team was getting beat in the huddle and he said, "no I dont want to. I am happy singing a happy song...."

He cusses and grins  during interviews and on more then two occasions he said, "and ****...." ( I quote him!) in his responses just like he is back on the block shooting the breeze with his boys.

If I was a reporter I would ask him, "Wtf :censored: is so funny!?"

Pat Riley must be up in arms and DWade and the new rookie coach is gonna have their hands full with this clown...

Not good. I am not ranking on the kid. He has talent. But he is Derrick Coleman all over again. He will make it hard for you to like him at first.

But from how he carries himself and his body language :sigh: and antics :naaa: you might want to.

Acts like a total knob...but hopefully he will grow out of that. But it is what the NBA gets when they allow babies and boys by and large under 21 enter the league.

What do you all think of this clown :clown: ?

The Beasley Show

I definitely dig his game, but I'm interested to see how he develops defensively

So wait. You don't like him because he laughs, acts bored, and curses while he's being interviewed by the media? Half the players in the NBA do at least one of those things while being interviewed by the media. I think you've picked a pretty stupid reason to hate on the guy. Do you also not like Andrew Bogut who thinks the media is his personal outlet to express his (usually negative and racist) views on American players in the NBA and America in general?

And the whole laughing during the game thing was not when he was getting beat. It was against the Bulls who the Heat beat by 20+ points while Beasley scored 28 points.

Look, the kid acts like Shaq or Barkley do around the media. He likes to joke around with them. I see nothing wrong with that. It's a lot better than saying things like "Black players are all about the bling" (paraphrasing).

Bogut never mentioned black players specifically in his comments.

Did you REALLY need to rant about something as silly as what you just ranted about?

Derrick Rose & Michael Beasley are both horrible with the media..

..because they're 19 years old!

Come on, both will improve over time. Even in college they weren't used to being followed as much as on the pro level. It's a process for both. It's way too premature to predict a Beasley/media war.

As long as he doesn't interrupt his sentences with asinine smilie faces I've got no problem with his communication skills.

There was nothing wrong with that interview. It was a regular interview after a meaningless game. Of course he's gonna **** around. You say he acts bored but the truth is that's not acting and most NBA players are like that during interviews. I don't even know how you anyone saw that as him being egotistical.

I love Beasley.

His personality reminds me of Charles Barkley.

Some hate him, most love him.

I actually think you're just riding the wave of popular opinion in saying that Beasely is immature. The kid seems fine to me. A lot of young players are not the most eloquent people in front of the media when they get into the league. Don't you notice how OJ Mayo and Kevin Love are both much better with the media. I'm sure part of that reason is because they both have been in the media spotlight far longer then Beasley or Rose.

The guy is no where close to Barkley, Barkley was actually funny and could express his opinion. Beasley just looks like he's lacking communication skills, probably one of the reason why he comes off as arrogant. To me it looks like he smiles when he doesn't know what to say, probably a nervous habit.

Someone in the Miami organization will try to help him, hopefully he can pick it up because his communication skills are going to kill his marketing.

Agreed. The Miami Heat really need to look into this. It is a serious personality disorder that is rarely exhibited in humans.

From what I've been told the kid CAN be very immature at times but is basically a decent kid.

We'll see...

President Donald Trump referred to African countries, Haiti and El Salvador as "shithole" nations during a meeting Thursday and asked why the U.S. can't have more immigrants from Norway.

The key is that the majority keep referring to him as a kid which ultimately is a reality. Hes young, he just got thrown into the national spotlight and there is an acclimation period that he needs. Don't rush to judge the kid because his public relation skills are lacking. He jokes around but so what? Isn't that what we want the players to act in all honesty? Aren't we sick of the cliche answers to the cliche questions. We want entertaining fodder not an automated programmed answer into every athlete. I'd much rather have the players be themselves for better or worse than be subjected to an obviously fabricated persona.
