I think it's a pretty big signing for us. Brent Barry isn't a big deal, but the fact that he'll replace Luther Head is. Barry's a better shooter, better passer, better spot backup PG, and he's even better on the defensive end. Oh, did I mention that Barry doesn't disappear like a fart in the wind come playoff time? This is a very nice signing for us because it means that Luther Head's days as a Rocket are numbered. My guess for the remainder of the offseason is that we re-sign Carl Landry and head into the 08-09 season looking a little something like this:
Yao/Dorsey/Mutombo
Scola/Landry/Hayes
Battier/Greene/Novak
Mcgrady/Barry/Head
Alston/BJax/Brooks
Bobby Jackson and Steve Francis gives us about 9 million dollars worth of expiring contracts, so I'm thinking that we'll be very active when the trade deadline approaches.

The MacMac-YaoYao combo are proven 50+win seasons. They can make playoff regardless how wild the West is, even if it means the need of a 50-win for the 8th spot. But they can't get out of the 1st round.
Signing Brent Barry ain't no upgrade for the Rockets. The dude is freakin' old, ancient, antique,... whatever. Rod Strickland was a badly failed experiement with the Rockets couple years ago as a 6th man in rotation. Haven't the Rockets learned its lessson?

People aren't seeing this signing for what it really is. Barry isn't being brought in to be the x-factor; he's simply replacing the ever-so-worthless Luther Head.

exactly..
what the **** are people expecting? Brent Barry is a solid role player..one of the better 3-point shooters in the NBA, a solid passer/playmaker with high basketball IQ..solid addition..

This is a good signing. The Rockets will finally get someone that doesn't disappear in the playoffs...

During his days as a Sonic, yes.

Not a big deal. We need another solid player. Right now only Tmac and Yao can create their own offense. Anyone that can put up points off the bench is ideal. That's not Barry.

Houston is stuffed with "role players". They need another player that can step up when Yao or Tmac are injured. (or choking in the playoffs)

Under-rated signing IMHO.

This is why the signing is significant for team that had jump-shooting issues last year:

For the Rockets to move deeper into playoff, their management can not be stingy. They need instant offense and not just relying on MacMac/Yao.

Told ya , he was going to sign with us last season if it wasn't for Yao's season ending injury. Great signing for us.. Luther Head should be traded now, it's just that no one wants him.

You can always trade him for Jenaro Pargo

Barry will not be our third scorer, we still have an expiring and young players to give up for that third scorer, don't get excited, maybe we make a trade minutes before the deadline.

Huge upgrade over Luther head even at age 37. Luther Head is a horrible, HORRIBLE NBA player. Jeff Van Gundy should never ever get another coaching job for picking him over Spanoulis and ruining any chance the Rockets had of winning a championship.

Imagine if they had kept Gerald Green!
