2009/2010 who will be better between the 2?

Post#1 » by magicfanejc42 » Wed Jul 16, 2008 6:27 pm

Okay so me and my buddy are having an argument right now about something completely stupid.

Okay so think in the 2009-2010 season, Me and my buddy are having a simple argument, if Philly were to be able to sign Iverson to the MLE in the 09 offseason and lose Andre Miller would they be better than Orlando? And have a better chance of winning a title?

(without any major trades)
Iverson---Nelson
Iggy---Pietrus
Thad---Hedo
Brand---Lewis
Dalembert---Dwight
6th Man Speights/Lou Williams---Courtney Lee/Fran V/Redick( Not really sure whom it would be for either team)

My simple argument is Iverson will be closing in on 35, which means his speed and scoring ability will have to finally diminishing.Thaddeus and Lou are not star players..and I don't feel Williams will ever really hit his potential...Not to mention noone really knows how Brand is feeling off of his achilles(Which is a pretty major sports injury)
I feel a 24 year old Dwight with 2 20 point scorers in Lewis and Hedo and a defensive specialist with Pietrus will be plain and simple better than Philly. The "Star" players for Orlando are much younger..

His Argument- Dwight Howard is soft, and due to the fact he has no jump shot he is not a dominant big man. That Louis Williams and Thaddeus Young are going to be star players, and Iverson will be the same old Iverson who has a good asst/TO ration and can drop 25-26 a game. That Philly is EASILY better plain and simple.

But it's really anyone opinion.(Also, by no means am I saying these will be the two best teams in the East..But who do you think of the two will be better?) NO PHILLY OR ORLANDO FANS PLEASE!

Hedo will most likely opt out and be a free agent by this season so you don't even know if ORL has that core of 20ppg scorers.

Lou should be good enough to be the starter and keep AI in limited minutes as teh scoring punch for the team when they need those spurts.

OK, I'm the friend he's talking about, let me give MY reasons..

First off, this is assuming the sixers would be getting the Mature Iverson in Denver, the one who wants a championship, the one whos shots per game are down 6 per game, his FG% up, and his assist to turnover ratio up. The lineups would be this:

iverson nelson
iguodala pietrus
thad young hedo
brand lewis
dalambert howard

if pietrus is a "defensive specialist" as my good friend describes, then iguodala, young, and having 2 shotblockers who average over 2.0 bpg behind them is the all century defensive team compared to that. this would have a 3rd year thaddeus young playing his natural 3 spot as well, and you have 2 double double front court players.

Then when you look at the bench, the sixers have louis williams, who, as a 20 year old bench player averaged over 11 ppg last season, as well as a great rebounding and defender reggie evans coming off the bench, as well as this past seasons starting shooting guard willie green coming of the bench, and 6'10 marreese speights.

the magic have who coming off the bench? courtney lee and jj redick? lee could be good, thats about it.

With dwight howard, he's obviously a beast, but he has no where near the low post game brand does on the offensive side of the ball.
there is no question in my mind the sixers would have the better ball club assuming these rosters.

Very simply put: Philly

Philly will counter Howard with Brand and Dalambert, while stil having AI,Miller running around Nelson. Orlando gave away the chance to becoming great, the day they signed Lewis to that deal. What a waste of money!

While I agree with everyone the sixers would win this easily, this is without andre miller, but instead allen iverson

Philly.

However, I expect Orlando to land a PG that will put them over the top as the best team in the East once Boston declines.

Iverson would be better than Nelson
Iggy is better than Pietrus
Thad would be very close to Hedo
Brand if healthy is easily better than Lewis
Dwight Howard is superman, but Dalembert wouldn't allow him to get his 20/20's

Philly has a better bench, so philly wins in all.

Here's another question... What if Tmac would return to orlando for the MLE after his contract is up.. we all know how much he wants to win and i think orlando would be perfect for him.
You guys think that philly would still be better if Tmac returns to orlando?

Well now we're just going into a bunch of what ifs. I highly doubt Tmac will take the MLE, he's still young comparatively to AI and still has more better years left in him. AI going back to Philly at this point is much more realistic than Tmac going back to Orlando.

It's funny you say that. I was just talking to a buddy of mine, and we both felt there was a great chance he could return to Orlando for MLE when his contract is up.. By then Orlando will easily be a top 5 team, and he will most likely still NEVER made it out of the first round.. He'll be desperate, and the East with a player llke Dwight would be a dream...

this thread is just a "what if" thread.

What if LeBron James decides to retire from basketball and pursue a career as a babysitter?

Tmac returning to orlando for the MLE is not going to happen. He is young, and is not fond of Orlando as iverson is philly. Iverson loves philadelphia, and has said nothing but good about the city and fans. He is 33 and would be more than willing to play for a smaller amount right now to finish with the city that made him. Orlando was just one of the many stops for Tmac, and he has talked badly about them since.

Im glad though that the consensus has all been philly would be the better team.

Sorry Eric, but sixers ftw! lol

Yeah, T-Mac hates Orlando. That's why he lives there.

^He's referring to the Orlando organization, not the city.

Genius.

The Sixers don't have anyone as bad as Nelson in the starting lineup. 76's but not by much.
