NBA Regular Season opens with a tripleheader on October 29th

The 2008-09 NBA schedule will begin with a preseason doubleheader Friday, Oct. 24, at 8 and 10:30 p.m. on ESPN. The regular-season schedule will start with a NBA Wednesday tripleheader October 29, at 5:30, 8 and 10:30 p.m. with a NBA Friday doubleheader October 31, at 8 and 10:30 p.m.

i wouldnt be surprised if the celtics played the lakers or the pistons.

Yeah, possibly one or both of Beasley and Rose will be playing as well. Maybe Portland too so that we can see Oden's first game.

Boston/Lakers
Portland/Suns

Its usually the champs and an up and coming team to show the banner and promote the new blood.
I wouldn't be surprised to see a Celtic-Philly or Celtic-Orlando match up.
Spurs vs. Portland last year
Heat vs. Bulls 2 years ago
Spurs vs. Denver 3 years ago (Melo was only a sophmore)
Pistons vs. Rockets- Yao and McGrady

I expect the following teams to play on opening day:
Chicago - Cleveland
Miami - Boston
Portland - Lakers

My guesses:
Boston vs. Philly
Champs vs. their first round opponent has been repeated recently, plus Philly just added Brand and they had a good playoff fight. I can definitely see this going down at the Garden.
Portland vs. Phoenix
Hpoenix will get a million games again. The league likes putting Shaq on opening night, too. Portland is a good up-and-comer to showcase and Oden will be stepping on an NBA court for the first time. Gotta have at least one matchup out West.
Chicago vs. Toronto
Miami has bombed on opening night, recently. I think the league wants to show either Rose or Beasley, but I don't see them facing off so early in the season. I think the league will save that showcase matchup.

My guess:
Hawks @ Celtics
Blazers @ Suns
Jazz @ Lakers
Cavis @ Wizards would make for a good game but by judging by the past, I think something these are the kind of games that will be on opening night.

Chicago @ New Orleans: Derrick Rose vs CP3
Portland @ Utah
or
Utah @ Los Angeles: NW division battle or rematch of last years playoffs.
I have Boston, NO, and Utah getting opening home games because of the response they'll get from the home crowd.
