Are Bulls Fans putting too much pressure on Derrick Rose?

It seems that many Bulls fans are expecting Derrick Rose to be one of the best players in the league in the near future. While that certainly can be true, it seems many are overhyping him when he hasn't even played a game in the league.

Even when guys like Carmelo and Wade had been rumored in trades, many Bulls fans say they wouldn't have traded Rose for those guys and I thought was insane.

With that in mind, does it seem Bulls fans are putting too much pressure on Derrick Rose to be great?

Thoughts!!!

They're not putting any more pressure on him then past teams put on players who were top picks and had a lot of talent. Teams' fans always put a lot of hype and pressure on top picks, it's pretty normal.

Man, I'm sorry but 99% of your threads make me go "what the ****?".

How have Bulls fans been putting to much pressure on him or expecting to much. Most Bulls fans are expecting him to come off the bench early in the eyar and probably post a staline of 12-14 points, 3-4 rebounds and 5-6 assists. Seems very realistic for a number one overall pick to me.

Alot of Bulls fans also see Derrick as a project... one that will come along quite quicly (everyone saw how his game evolved over the season so fast at Memphis). Derrick in November will probably be alot different to Derrick in March or April.

I have not seen anyone predict Derrick to score anywhere near 20 points a game (most I've seen is 15). I have not seen anyone predict Derrick to grab 7 rebounds. I have not seen anyone predict Derrick to dish out 10 assists a game, or even very close to that.

I personally think Bulls fans will be pleasantly suprised with his impact.

I'd like to see where you got the idea that we are overrating and overhypeing him. We all know that Beasley will have the better rookie year, and probably guys like Mayo aswell. So we must be really hyping up Beasley if we think he is already better than Derrick.

As for the trades - why trade Derrick, a potential superstar, for a guy who exerts effort only on one end of the floor and everyday looks more and more like the guy who coulda, shoulda, woulda, but never was? A great player that so far hasn't shown anymore Melo's my favorite player in the league, but I understand the thought process behind turning down that kind of offer (which would have included more than Derrick - probably a starter or two). As for Wade, I would say bar health issues, every Bulls fan would of pulled the trigger. The problem? That was never offered, and Miami would have laughed at a Rose for Wade trade.

+1

JordansBulls, didn't you actually post recently you weren't trying to create a lot of topics, and you'd actually prefer not to do so?

How's it going so far?

No he's the number one pick.

While we're on the topic of putting too much pressure on an rookie, Portland fans are putting to much pressure on Oden and Bayless. They talk like they're supposed to be all stars in their rookie seasons.

Still upset about our board hating the Rose/Deng/Gordon for Melo/Iverson proposal you had?

Bulls fans have reasonable expectations for him this year, like Flite said. But he's the number one pick, and projects to be a superstar, of course we want to build the team around him as opposed to the 2nd/3rd option talents of Deng/Gordon.

I think the phrase "expecting too much" makes a lot more sense than "putting too much pressure on." I doubt most players are aware of die-hard fans ranting and raving on message boards about them.

Maybe when the season starts, if Rose or Beasley start getting booed consistently then you could say they're facing too much pressure from fans.

Yes, he’s not even going to be an impact player next season. He'll be coming off the bench in an extremely crowded backcourt, and we knew that he was a project player in the first place. I think he will show impressive ability to score in transition, but will struggle with a lot of other parts of his game. He will be phenomenal, eventually, but too much is being expected. Pressure? Who knows, that's all on Rose.

The Bulls poster above was trying to predict a 'modest' statline of 14/4/6. Are you kidding me?

Chris Paul put up 16/5/8 to win RoY, but he started 78 games and played 36mpg, and he came out after two seasons.

Deron Williams put up 11/2.4/4.5, and was second in RoY voting that year, after playing three seasons at Illinois. He almost started 50 of his 80 games, playing 28mpg.

These are two of the best point guards in the league today, if not the top two.

Unless Chicago makes a move, Rose won't be starting next year. I think they're expecting the team to make a big turnaround without a trade. The truth is, you have a coach with no experience and you added a rookie that will be second on the depth chart behind another one of your starters (Hinrich). There shouldn't be that great of expectations.

Excellent post "Malinhion", we need this type of post in the Bulls forum.

Cliff Levingston sure hopes not on both fronts. Hopefully Paxson clears the glut one way or another, and the organization finally realizes that talented players get better by playing, not by watching others play.

The thing about Rose is that even though he's still relatively raw as far as top picks go, he's going to be one of the most impressive physical specimens at his position from day one. That'll help him be able to make an impact immediately, which is another reason why he should be starting from day 1.

It's not any pressure that he hasn't already asked for.

It's more accurate to say that non-Bulls fans are putting too much pressure on him. A lot of people on RealGM inaccurately think that Bulls fans think they're title contenders now, which couldn't be any further from the truth. The organization even thinks this is a chance to take a step back and develop the young guys, namely Rose, Tyrus, Noah and Thabo.

Bulls fans want to see Derrick become a great player but know it won't happen from day one. Rather we'd like to see those flashed of brilliance and constant improvement until maybe he's able to be considered all-star material in a year or two.
