Could this years draft be like 2003?

Remember the 2003 draft where a single draft gave u like 3-4 superstars in a draft (lebron, wade, bosh, melo) and a large amount of talented stars (howard, kaman,west etc etc)
But it also produced one of the biggest bust ever in darko.

That years draft:
lebron, darko, anthony, bosh, wade, kaman, hinrich, ford, sweetney, hayes, pietrus, collins, banks, ridnour, gaines, bell, cabarkapa, west, pavlovic, jones, diaw, planicic, outlaw, cook, delfino, ebi, perkins, barbosa, josh howard

this years draft:
Derrick Rose*, Michael Beasley* ,O.J. Mayo*, Russell Westbrook,Kevin Love, Danilo Gallinari, Eric Gordon, Joe Alexander :(, D.J. Augustin, Brook Lopez, Jerryd Bayless*, Jason Thompson, Brandon Rush, Anthony Randolph, Robin Lopez, Marreese Speights, Roy Hibbert, JaVale McGee, J.J. Hickson , Alexis Ajinca, Ryan Anderson,Courtney Lee, Kosta Koufos, Serge Ibaka, Nicolas Batum, George Hill,Darrell Arthur, Donte Greene, DJ White, JR Giddens

Do u guys believe this year can be like the 2003 one? Im not saying exactly like but with 3-4 superstars and 4-7 impact guys and alot of role players?

What i think they could become (just potential!):
* = superstar
bolded = impact player
Darko of the year = :(

I expect no one to be as good as lebron is.

Not a chance IMO. 2008 Draft is overrated.

I think it's going to look a lot more like the 2000 draft when all is said and done.

I think Love has a shot to be better than anyone in this draft. When I was watching games to prepare for the draft I was pretty surprised that it wasn't a 3 player race for number 1.

Actually, I agree. I mean I don't think everyone will be all stars, but a lot could be borderline all stars.

Rose, Beasley, Mayo = Potential superstars
Everyone from 4-14 = Borderline all-stars, at least impact players...with a few exceptions

But as Social Lubrication said, it could definitely end up like the 2000 Draft Class. With a few more better players.

I'm gonna have to disagree on this one. I think this draft is really deep from the first pick all the way down to the bottom half of the second round. It might not have the potential superstars that 03 has but overall it has alot of potential all-star players and very good role players who can impact their respective teams which is far from an overrated draft. I have to say this Bayless is underlooked right now. He's gonna be nasty!

Why do you consider Darko a bust? Started 64 games last year and averaged 7 points, 6 rebounds. Not great for a #2 pick but i don't consider that a bust. A consistent career guy

Ok, I'll rephrase what i was trying to say. He was a SEVENTEEN year old 7'0 Center, drafted out of Serbia, had never played pro-basketball. There is no way he should have been taken that high, ask him and i bet he would agree.

His first three years in the NBA were pointless. If you get thrown into a league that is THAT much more advanced than you at age 17, you will not improve. He wasn't really able to get the chance to improve his game until he was traded to Orlando and given a more important role. He shot over 50% in his thirty games for them that year. In the world championships in 2006, he averaged 16 points and scored 18 points and had 15 rebounds against Spain.

I understand why you guys leaped on my, but that is my defense of Darko. He is less of a bust than Olowokandi IMO.

This draft isn't nearly as strong as 2003 in terms of star power at the top.

Heck, the consensus top 2 (Rose and Beasley) I don't think were seen as strong as the consensus top 2 last year (Durant and Oden) or even 2004, at least going into the draft (Howard and Okafor).

I'm actually kind of amazed how many question marks exist throughout the lottery. It wouldn't surprise me at all if only 1 or 2 players make multiple All-Star appearances.

1) He was 18
2) Well he was taken that high therefore he had high expectations on him. Considering what his peers in that draft class have accomplished and become, he's a bust (and what he hasnt accomplished).
3) FIBA is different than the NBA.
4) What has he doen since he's left Detroit? Not much.
5) Olowokandi (though 23 years old as rookie) career was much more successful than Darko's at this point. Of course it's hard to tell since Darko is only 23 but he's played 5 years. Kandi Man was the #1 pick as well, and Darko was #2 (though tin a deep class) so it's a different situation.

I'm just going to stop. I can't believe you're even talking about him as a non-bust.

Not a chance IMO.

Just the first 6 picks for 2003 (LeBron, Darko, Melo, Bosh, Wade, Kaman) are all too talented minus Darko. The only way 2008 can compare is if every player drafted in the first round ends up being equal to their best-case scenario.

LOL! I love your Joe Alexander hate there. Please don't tell me you are basing his career off of summer league. Already enough of those overreactions on the Bucks board.

I labelled him as a bust before the SL. Terrible pick. It's like taking Pittsnogle.

Bayless to the Blazers makes the draft as deep as it needs to be for me.
