Probably just a scare tactic to the Hawks to get a deal done. But if he takes it, good for him.

this is really the first one that makes me think about the real level of competition that the euroleague is trying to start.

before when they were just overpaying role players, that is one thing.

but now they are overpaying a good player, and one wonders where things go from here.

Yeah, I am not one of the posters who believes anyone like LeBron is going to Europe or anything, but this Euroleague angle is definitely becoming interesting of late.

The NBA has really gone downhill.
I would welcome a new league with open arms.

Similar thing happened last summer. Charlie Bell was a RFA and wanted out of Milwaukee. He got a nice offer from Olympiacos, flew to Athens, got wined and dined and gave a nice show that he wanted this deal to happen. Then, he suddenly got another offer from the Heat and signed, but the Bucks matched. I predict that somehow the same thing will happen and Childress willl be playing for the Hawks next year for the MLE.

So let me get this right, Josh Childress is worth 3yr 20 million! While Carlos Delfino gets 3yr 30 million? Im very surprised no team has sent the MLE @ Childress.

I think the case could be made that Childress is worth 20/3. IMO he'd be a bargain at 24/4. This European signing thing's got to be posturing for Childress. Delfino would have been a bit player on the Pistons next year. Childress can be a serious contributor or starter on many teams. So far, the only guys we've seen flee to Europe couldn't hack it in the NBA. I hope Ricky Davis ends up over there as well. Good riddance. Maybe he can play with Qyntel Woods.

The U.S dollar has dropped and the Euro has gone up. THe euro leagues are now able to pay this to the players. If I'm a player, Im doing it.

whether its simply posturing or not doesnt matter because its probably the right thing to do. best case scenario, you scare the hawks into looking into a possible s&t. if they call his bluff, he goes over to greece, collects a decent sized check, and gets to play for a rather solid team. its win-win for chillz.

Man Josh Smith should book a flight and float a 4 year $45 million offer from a Euroleague team.

How many rumors have we heard this summer about players jumping ship overseas? Childress, Delfino, Parker, AK47, Artest, Jamison, Ricky Davis, Krstic, Scola? And how many actually came true? Yeah, thats right. One (from that group, at least, if I missed any please correct me). I will be surprised if Childress signs in Greece, but these rumors are always interesting for a good discussion.

As long as Lakers Fan is not involved :)

Olympiacos doesnt eff around either, this is a serious offer from an owner who loves his Futbol and basketball teams and has splashed out to bring big names to its club.
It is easily the most popular Greek team around the world which results in alot of merchandise sales from expatriots or those with a Greek background.
they do have money to burn.

Josh Smith is an ego freak and has been that way since high school.
He was too stupid to be accepted in college so the euro league
seems to be about right. Since he can barely speak correct english,
I would find it hard to believe that he can learn a new language.

For those comparing Delfino's money to Childress', firstable, the amounts are not clear. Delfino seems to be lower than advertised, and then you have to consider if they talk about net or gross money.

Anyway, you have to consider Delfino's international experience (both with his national team and in the Euroleague with Fortitudo Bologna) as an advantage for him over Childress when talking about international salary.

Just remember they are goint to be paid -or would be paid- to play in a European laegue, not in the NBA.
