OKLAHOMA CITY (AP)—The NBA has filed for trademark rights to six nicknames for the league’s new Oklahoma City franchise: Barons, Bison, Energy, Marshalls, Thunder and Wind.

An attorney for the league made the filing Monday with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Marshal is usually spelled with one l. It’s not clear why the league used a variant spelling.


Which of the six final names is the best? And why are they spelling Marshalls with two l's?

In addition to Barons, I also like Marshal(l)s... as well as for another future team.

I'll go with Marshal(l)s...

I wouldn't mind Marshalls, but Barons should be the obvious choice.

Oklahoma Marshalls; I can tolerate it. Wind, Thunder and Energy sound like indoor lacrosse teams.

From what I understand people thought it was Thunder because they registered the nickname, we're finding out now that they registered five other nicknames as well.

I think Barons is a slam dunk choice/great name. Marshals is ok, the rest are pretty LOL worthy.

Cobras? I dunno, some kinda snake would be cool, and would prompt the black uniforms too.

Wind? Imagine teams leapfrogging them in the playoff standings. "We're passing Wind!"

I think they're all terrible. These people have absolutely no imagination.
I picked Energy because it's the least offensive and if they're smart they will it. It will promote a different image of Oklahoma than the one most outsiders (whether we're ignorant or not is irrelevant) have.

So whats offensive about Thunder and Wind?

When I think Energy I think of a radioactive Richard Simmons.
