Out of the 8 teams that made the playoffs in the East last season, who won't make it back to the playoffs in 08/09 ?
Boston
Detroit
Cleveland
Toronto
Atlanta
Philadelphia
Orlando
Washington

At the minute if anyone misses I'd say Atlanta seems the most likely.
Boston, Detroit, Cleveland, Orlando seem like locks. Toronto and Philly were better than them and added pieces and Washington's healthy. So yeah Hawks would be the odd man out.

I agree, if Atlanta doesn't start next season with the other Josh I find it very hard for this team to make the playoffs again.....considering the upcoming eastern conference.
In no particular order my eastern playoff picture next year
- Boston
- Orlando
- Detroit
- Philly
- Cleveland
- Toronto
- Washington
- Chicago/Miami

Even if Smith resigns (I really doubt), I still don't see Hawks making the playoffs again this year.
Bulls and Heat took a step back last year but they will be back with new mindset and being healthy in Miami's case.
I definitely see Hawks missing the playoffs.

Cleveland
The Cavs are done. An absolutely embarrassing job by their GM to surround LeBron with nothing but over the hill, overpaid trash. He deserves to be liberated from that mess of a franchise. 2010 can't get here soon enough.

Uhhh...negative
They were "one" layup from knocking the C's out of the playoffs this past year
LeBron "ALONE" will carry that team to the playoffs in the east. . .

Interesting you mention this when the Hawks, a team who also pushed the Celtics to 7 games, is running away with this poll. Yes Atlanta lost Childress and are having issues with Josh Smith, but they're a very young team and should continue to grow as they gain experience and chemistry. On the other hand, the Cavs are ancient. Ilgauskas is inching closer and closer to needing a walker just to get up and down the court. Ben Wallace is hot garbage. The same for Joe Smith. They have the worst backcourt in the league, and if Delonte West signs elsewhere, it becomes much worse.
I can't even see LeBron saving this pitiful squad.

The way our offseason is going we probably won't make the playoffs next year.

Atlanta. Especially if Josh Smith isn't resigned. However, I can imagine them not making the playoffs with or without him.
EDIT: Seriously, who voted for Boston?

It's not looking good for Atlanta and the rest of the teams look to be a lock. Philly just needs to get Iggy signed and stay healthy!

Exactly about the Boston pick. What the hell? Outside of catastrophic injuries, that is not going to happen

With such a pitiful squad, LeBron still pulled that team to "4th" in the East while the Hawks "bairly" sqeaked in past the Pacers. The Cavs yet finished 8 games ahead of the Hawks, with LeBron playing in 75 of the 82 games this past season.
LeBron will not miss the playoffs. . .
David Stern & the NBA will not allow LeBron to miss the playoffs. . .

Cleveland not missing the playoffs unless Lebron is injured. They play too good defense and rebound too well to miss the playoffs when they have a 30 point scorer that can get in front of the rim anytime he wants.
Atlanta easily. They were not on my playoff list and that was with Childress. Childress gone they loose a top win share guy and one of there most productive players. Evans should help but right now I see Atlanta as a 30-33 win team. They need to make a trade to be a playoff team next year.

I think there's a good chance that the eight teams will all stay in, but the Hawks get chosen based on default. The only one that was a clear under-.500 team, the only ones without a playoff history of at least some sort... as I said, probably all eight back in, but probably them if anyone.
Seriously, does anyone see a team that missed the playoffs in the East last season that should make it this time?
