Teams that need a 2nd option should be pursuing Vince Carter

I'm just not sure why more teams are not after Vince Carter especially considering his price tag may be doable.

Teams that are in need of a second option need to be going after him especially if they have contracts of players that the Nets could use for the pursuit of guys in 2010.

A few teams that come to mind that need a legit 2nd option are: Mavericks, Magic, Pistons, Cavaliers, Raptors, Bulls, etc

First, his new contract scares some teams off. Secondly, New Jersey isn't exactly giving him away. A quick look at those teams you mentioned:

Mavs - Nothing here that works. The Mavs don't have anything the Nets want.

Magic - Nope. They have no contracts to make this deal work. Besides, they had a shot at him when he was a FA and decided to go with Lewis.

Pistons - Detroit would be interesting. They have a SG in Rip who is productive, and has a contract that the Nets are looking for. A McDyess/Rip for VC/Swift would work, but a deal like this would most likely fall apart in that the two teams are rivals and the Nets wouldn't want to give Detroit Carter. Also, New Jersey with Rip instead of Carter would suck. Will Lebron still come if that is the case?

Cavs - They reportedly had a deal in the works with New Jersey, which NJ killed when they realized they didn't want to just dump Carter.

Raptors - Who would they trade for him? Contracts don't match anyways, and Thorn surely isn't going to give him away for free to the Raptors, who is a division rival.

Bulls - Would be a possibility if the Nets decide they want Gordon, but I'm gonna guess they'll have reservations with the kind of contract he's seeking, and how a backcourt of Gordon and Harris would work (or not work).

In the end, Carter's on-court ability (which during the end of last year, he really went on a tear proving he can still do it), leadership (he stepped up after the Kidd trade), and marketability makes him unlikely to be moved by NJ.

I'm sure there are other teams who would love to have Carter as their #2, but it takes two to tango, and right now the Nets aren't dancing.

I'd be all for it, but I'm not sure we have the assets to pull it off, and I'd like to keep Julian Wright.

Detroit is fine @SG.....it's SF/PF/C that needs some sort of upgrade and Artest/Smith fit the need much better.

IMO a Rip+Maxiell for Vince trade makes a lot of sense.

Rip is a very solid replacement in Jersey, and he only has 2 years left so they can be players in that big '10 FA class. And obviously JMax is a solid 22-25 mpg PF.

The Pistons would get an upgrade at the 2. I can definitely live with that. Hell, they could still try and package Tay/Amir for Josh Smith/Speedy if they wanted.

I think the Pistons are in great shape to make a move for someone. The core players are on reasonable contracts and are still good players, and they have some nice young pieces to use as sweeteners.
