Judgment Day for Donaghy !

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3509440

NEW YORK -- Disgraced NBA referee Tim Donaghy was sentenced to 15 months in prison Tuesday after pleading guilty last year to taking thousands of dollars in payoffs from a professional gambler for inside betting tips.

Donaghy, 41, had faced up to 33 months in prison.

Donaghy also was sentenced to a three-year term of supervised release, on the condition that he receive mental health treatment for his gambling addiction.

Donaghy's defense attorney asked that Donaghy be sent to a federal prison camp in Florida, near his family.

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

I think he got off lightly, i read the prosecution wanted 15-23 months

but more importantly, is this scandal now over? what happens to scott foster? dick bavetta bringing cookie to coaches?

stern is still in charge

so many questions, so little answers, but in the end....stern always wins!

pretty much one of those "slap on the wrist" type judgments...Federal Prison Camp = breezy 15 months especially if it's the Marianna FPC...meh, really brings no justice to the NBA or the fan...David Stern getting lucky on operation "sweep this under the rug".

A little over a year is probably the appropriate sentence under the guidelines. Donaghy doesn't have priors and his involvement in illegal activity is limited to this incident. Without his confession, it isn't clear the Feds could have established with particularity which games he fixed beyond a reasonable doubt. He got some credit for accepting responsibility and cooperating with the government. Plus, he was probably coerced by the MOB to do a lot of the stuff he did.

So all in all, I think the sentence is fair. Definitely didn't deserve anymore than a year and a half.

one thing we know for sure is if donaghy was lying about his "claims" about fixing in the nba, he wouldve gotten a much much harder sentence for lying to the feds....soooooo im sure what that means!

nba "lost out on their claim for restitution fees"

instead of getting a couple of million they asked for

donaghy said he owes them 300-400 thousand, the judge ruled with donaghy

lol donaghy beat the nba in something!

No, but it does mean he helped to make the case against his co-defendants. The guys that were sentenced a while back.

Not if they never determined whether he was lying or not, or ever bothered to find out.

In any event, was anyone expecting him to get more? I think he should have, but this is about what I was expecting.

This is about right. He's co-operating with their investigation which certainly played a part. Now it's just a matter of time until the rest of the cookie crumbles.

You gotta figure that if Donaghy's allegations had been outright lies, he would have gotten closer to the max sentence of 33 months. The league certainly needs to look into the Scott Foster business as well.

I don't believe Stern for one second when he says Donaghy was the only crook. In Game 3 of the Spurs-Suns series last year, Eddie F. Rush was even worse than Donaghy.

The most questionable refs in the league right now are Rush, Bennett Salvatore, and Kenny Mauer. All three of them worked Game 7 of the Cavs-Celtics series. Mauer hates Paul Pierce for some reason... just see Game 7 of the Celtics-Cavs series (where Pierce was mugged the entire game, like when LeBron grabbed Pierce and pulled him down in the 4th quarter right in front of Mauer) and the game where Pierce broke his teeth a few years ago.

Salvatore is a hothead who goes out of his way to call T's and always favors the home team.

personally i think he was sentanced WAY too harshly... without him the prosecution had NO case against the other 3... like the ringleader of the entire ordeal received 15 months also so i just dont see how you can sentance them both with the same sentance

NBA also needs to investigate Violet Palmer for incompetence.
