The 2010 Plan

Going across the boards i notice all sorts of people on realgm mention their team has a 2010 plan so i wanted to take a look at who may indeed have a 2010 plan.
Boston - Ray Allen off the books and Rondo and Paul Pierce go into the last years of their contracts
Atlanta - Everybody off the books except Al Horford and Acie Law
Charlotte - Doesnt seem to have a 2010 plan, but they do have Felton and May coming off the books with Morrison entering his final contract year for that season
Chicago - Hughes comes off the books, and i dont know whats going on with Nocioni, Gooden and Gordon who are all without contract right now
Cleveland - Only Boobie and Bron are signed through 2010
Dallas - Doesnt look like they have a plan, but then again, Cuban has been known to go into the luxury tax, but Terry, Howard, Dirk, and Dampier are all signed for that season and will make a total of like 57 mil between the 4 of them. This is J-Kidd's last year, so who knows what happens with him
Denver - Doesnt look that great either. This is Iveys last year, so we'll see what happens there, but Kenyon is supposed to make almost 17 mil in the 2010-2011 season, so that hurts
Detroit - Its sort of unknown. Rip Hamilton becomes a FA that summer. Sheed and McDyess are waiting to resign right now, so they dont look like they will be major players that summer.
Golden St. - Harrington and Stephen Jackson both come off the books and will most likely not be re-signed most likely
Houston - YAO is the only significant player signed through 2010
Indiana - Marquis comes off the books, but the year before they are going to have to give Danny Granger a big pay day and then Travis Deiner should get a significant raise as well, so i dont see them doing much
Clippers - Camby, Tim Thomas, and Mobley all come off the books
Lakers - Fisher off the books, but Lakers dont look like they will be players. The year before they have to re-sign Bynum to a major contract and the person who they end up trading Odom for likely will have a big contract
Memphis - Darko is off the books, but Rudy Gay and Hakim Warrick should be getting pay days and Memphis should still have some money left over
Miami - Blount, Haslem off the books. Who knows what happens to Marion now. Miami will have money.
Milwaukee - Charlie V comes off, but most likely gets paid. Milwaukee doesnt look like they have a plan
Minny - Mike Miller and Brian Cardinal come off, but Minny might need alot of money to re-up on guys like Foye, McCants, Gomes, Craig Smith, Carney, and Brewer unless they plan to let some of them walk
New Jersey - Bobby Simmons and Trenton Hassel come off the books.
New Orleans - Mike James and Rasual Butler come off the books so at best they can grab a good role player, plus they have to resign Tyson Chandler
New York - Stephon and Malik is done this year, but Q-Rich and Jerome James get off that summer, so NY should have a little bit of money as well.
Orlando - Hedo, Battie, and Cook come off the books that summer and depending on how Hedo plays this year, he most likely will be resigned
Philly - With Igoudala and Miller most likely to be signed within the year, Philly has no 2010 plan
Phoenix - Shaq, Nash, and Raja all come off the books which literally cuts their current team salary in half
Portland - They have no 2010 plan, they will need to start resigning thier youngsters that summer though
Sacramento - Brad Miller, Kenny Thomas, Shareef all come off the books
San Antonio - Ginobli comes off the books, and Tim Duncan takes a 3.5 million dollar pay cut to help the team.
Seattle - Ridnour, Watson, Damien Wilkins all come off the books.
Toronto - Jermaine Oneal comes off the books
Utah - Okur and Harpring come off the books and im certain Boozer gets signed the summer before
Washington - Etan Thomas, Brandan Haywood, and Antonio Daniels all come off the books, but i assume Washington will resign atleast one of Etan or haywood if not both

So it looks like Portland, Philly, Dallas, LA Lakers, Milwaukee have absolutely no 2010 plan
Charlotte, Dallas, Denver, and Indy dont have alot of wiggle room
Orlando and New Orleans dont seem to have a major plan either
The rest of the teams look to have atleast enough money to sign 1 max player

Nice work TDOT...
Seems like a bunch of teams are going to be left disappointed...there won't be enough stars for everyone...
If I was the GM of a less desirable team (location, winning, etc) I would think about playing into the hype of this 2010 free agent class and look at a different route.

I agree. No disrespect to like Memphis, Minnesota, Sacramento, Oklahoma, and even my Toronto, but its going to be extremely difficult to land a major player. Toronto would have a better chance than those teams because atleast The Raps have been a playoff team for the last couple years.
But they would be better off taking Milwaukee, Charlotte, and Indiana's paths who are also less desirable locations to play in but they are setting themselves up to be competitive without the need of the 2010 FA Market

Nocioni is on a long-term deal.
But we're looking to move both him and Hinrich if we can find common ground on Gordon.
We've crunched the numbers on our board quite a bit, and we can afford having both Deng & Gordon on long-term deals with high salaries if we step into the 2010 with these players under contracts:
Joakim Noah (rookie deal)
Tyrus Thomas (RFA, can be signed after big UFA signing)
Luol Deng
Ben Gordon
Derrick Rose (rookie deal)
Thabo Sefolosha (RFA, same as Thomas)
2009 first-rounder (rookie deal)
2010 first-rounder (rookie deal)
With that team and payroll we will be able to offer a max deal while also re-sign both Tyrus & Thabo (assuming they aren't max players, which is likely they aren't)

Bulls are apparently talking to the Kings about a Nocioni/Miller swap.
Miller expires in 2010

Why in the world would they give Diener a new contract, he's the third string pg? The Pacers will have space in 2011 when Dunleavy, Tinsley, and Murphy's contracts are done.

That was awesome. I almost spewed my cola.
But seriously though, good thread topic and good info.

You might as well just take the Lakers off of the list... No way they have more than MLE

Clips will have nearly $20 million in cap space in 2010. If Yao opts out, I have to imagine the Clippers and LA's Asian fan base is a perfect destination for the big guy.

That nicka....i wrote in their that the Lakers will not be a player in the 2010 sweepstakes
Floppymouse...i dont know, i think they will try to trade Harrington before all that drama anyways and then if Ellis and Biedz develop into great players then i could see a decent FA signing with them. Stephen Jackson will already be in his 30's but probably still playing great ball, so theres a chance they keep him.
Circlecity...yea i guess i forgot that Ford and Bayless are ahead of him. I thought that he was decent when he had extended minutes this year, and no doubt can be another teams backup PG and maybe even a decent starter. Point is, he will be making more money on his next contract than he does now.
2011 is cool, but 2010 is the important summer
Morten Jensen...I dont think these guys can sign Gordon to tell you the truth, they should just let him walk. Rose is going to be a great player and eventually he will need a max. Noah is going to be average atleast. but what sucks about that is that average bigmen get big money. Okafur and Beidrens are only slightly better than average right now and are getting 11-12. If Noah continues on the path he was near the end of the season, i could see him land around 10 when its contract time. How much max guys can you have on your team

True the Clips will hmax money available but with Kaman still being young and a top 5-7 center, YAO would be redundant. They will have Baron, Gordon, and Thornton, so my guess would be to throw money at Amare and why wouldnt he want to play with a PG like Baron and a big center like Kaman to have his back ?

Kaman could fetch something nice in a trade in two years. Maybe even dump him on a team with the cap space, then use that additional space to sign Amare as well as Yao. Okay, enough day dreaming.

Warriors will have $45M in salaries committed for 2010/2011 assuming they don't resign Harrington, Jackson, Kosta, or extend Marcus Williams.
I'd love to see us make a play for Joe Johnson, he'd be the perfect SG next to Monta at point.
Biedrins
Wright
Randolph
Johnson
Ellis

Those guys should all get pretty big contracts unless something drastic happens to their skillset, Nash and Ray are the only guys in their last days
Nash will probably garner a Baron Davis of this year type of deal or he might take a paycut to win a ring somewhere.
Allen should be able to fetch atleast 10 mil no prob. but who knows he may stay with Boston and take less money if they are still contending at the time
Theres also what i like to call medium level guys.....guys like...
Larry Hughes
Zydrunas Ilgauskas
Ben Wallace
Antonio McDyess
Stephen Jackson
Rafer Alston
TJ Ford
Marcus Camby
Udonis Haslem
Mike Miller
Peja Stoyakovic *Early Termination Option*
Shaq (unless he retires)
Travis Outlaw
Brad Miller
Raja Bell
and then lower level guys who will still get money like
Brendan Haywood
Matt Harpring
Jason Kapono
Fabricio Oberto
John Salmons *ETO*
Steve Blake
Willie Green *ETO*
Earl Watson
Bobby Simmons
Derek FIsher
Tim Thomas
CUttino Mobley
Amir Johnson
Jerry Stackhouse
on top of all that you got that deep rookie class all as restricteds
Rondo, Scola, Gay, Foye, Carney, Lamarcus, Roy, Bargnani

Now im also going to compile a list of the most desirable locations to play in.....not in specific order but in batches
1st group...
New York Knicks - The Mecca
New Jersey Nets - moving to brooklyn, NYC
Miami Heat - All NBA players love the city of Miami
LA Clippers - Who wouldnt want to live in LA
2nd group
Boston - Recent Champs, KG and Pierce still here
Atlanta - Alot of NBA players love the city of Atlanta and if team keeps growing it should see the playoffs for the next 2 years
Chicago - To wear the same jersey Jordan did is a dream, Chicago is also a huge market and should have Deng and Rose locked up
Houston - YAO should still be there, and possibly TMAC, its been a winning franchise
Detroit - Very consistent franchise, still good players here
3rd Group
Phoenix - If Amare leaves and Nash and Shaq dont resign, this place becomes less desirable, but they have been a strong franchise over the past 5 years
Golden State - With Ellis and Beidz locked up, they should be able to grab another great player or 2 good ones
Utah - Nobody wants to live in Salt Lake City, but who wouldnt want to play with Deron and Booze under Sloan ?
Toronto - The Canada part is a turnoff to most NBA Ballers, but if Bosh resigns its almost the next best thing to Deron and Booze but a much more vibrant place to live
4th group
Cleveland - Only here because Lebron is expected to leave, but if Lebron resigns, Cleveland jumps to the first group because any bigman and any PG will want to play with this guy. If Bron leaves who will sign here ?
Memphis - Losing franchise in rebuild mode. Gay and Mayo will be nice though
Minny - Losing franchise in rebuild mode. Jefferson and Foye will be nice though
Sacramento - Losing franchise not yet in rebuild mode, but Martin is a star
Oklahoma - Losing franchise and too young for a veteran star
As mentioned before Portland, Philly, Dallas, LA Lakers, Milwaukee, Charlotte, Dallas, Denver, Indy
Orlando and New Orleans most likely will not be players in 2010
and San Antonio and Washington will probably only have money for MLE type guys this is assuming the Spurs resign Ginobli

So you're saying Clippers are ahead of a dominant Boston who very well could be contenders still, and the third biggest city, and market in the US in Chicago who will have a near prime rose and deng along with there other 5 young players?
I can understand New York because it's New York but they have a ways to go before they can ATTRACT a good FA.
New Jersey should grab someone
Clippers are in LA, also one of the worst franchises in the NBA. I doubt they get any of the top players.
Miami may not even be able to keep Wade.
Tier 1 should be Chicago, Boston, New York, New Jersey, Miami as all 5 will probably get 1 big star.

Boogydown, i guess your right, no doubt in my mind do i feel Chicago and Boston are the two closest destinations to the 4 i mentioned and i agree they will both sign big
