Kobe seems to be the biggest star in china. Is he more marketable than Lebron James? Perhaps the biggest superstar in the world?

Does the athlete have to be currently active? Jordan is still pretty popular, but Muhammed Ali is probably the most. Most popular current athlete is maybe Becks or Tiger.

I gaurentee you i have friends in europe and 18 year old teens in Europe have NO idea who tiger is. They know soccer. Soccer is the worlds #1 sport. Pick whoever u think is the most well known soccer player and u have the worlds biggest star

Kaka had the #1 selling jersey of any sport in 2007 i believe (AC Milan + Brazil jerseys combined)

Im a huge fan of Kaka but i just think its Dinho because he's so noticeable with how he looks. Kaka really isnt even though he may be the best player in the world.

No, you are wrong. You have no idea how dumb you sound right now. I'm sorry buddy. Yao is the most popular celebrity in China. He represents Chinas ascendency to the world stage and Forbes magazine lists him as the most popular person in China. He carried the Olympic Torch the final few hundred meters or however long it was.

Call me when you've lived in China for at least 6 months. I'm not the one quoting "Forbes" for the popularity of a foreign athlete in his home country.

This is why Kobe Bryant is the greatest sports icon in China; not Yao Ming, not Yi Jianlian, not even groundbreaking hurdle-champion Liu Xiang.
