Well I was wondering what would happen in negotiations with both Deng and Gordon this season. Primarily because Deng and Gordon both were coming off fantastic 2006/7 campaigns and in many views a disastrous 2007/8 campaign.
Chicago decided after much negotiation that they would base Dengs pay off of his 2006/7 performance rather than this last season. That allowed Luol to get nearly double what his value became this last season.
Essentially by allowing Deng to play off those numbers, they are showing the door to Gordon by offerring him his value this season.
Below are the players value as Restricted Free Agents (RFA) and Opn Market
2006/7
2007/8
So as you see Deng was offered a number closer to his 2006/7 totals at 6yr /72million (now for you math buffs. You will also notice due to teams depth Deng played about 10pct less now than he did then. That 10pct might be the equation to why he was offered 12million per.
Ben Gordon has been offered about 6million per year which more aligns with his salary of this season. Dont think for a moment he doesnt recognize that him and Deng produce about the same amount of impact over the course of a game.
