Anyone enjoy FIBA style of play more than the NBA?!

I must admit that I was pleasantly surprised at the style of play in FIba and I actually liked watching the games more than the NBA. FIBA games flow so quickly while NBA games seem move at a crawl to the point that games are now taking about 3 hours to finish. fiba also more physical than the NBA and players seem to be allowed to play that way a lot more than the NBA (the nba has become a sissy league if you ask me :) I would love the nba to learn a few things from fiba and make their play as exciting and fast (also, the WNBA can learn a thing or 2 from the uniforms worn by the Aussi women....DAAAAMN....but can you imagine what would happen to someone in the US if they suggested that the WNBA players wear those kind of uniforms :)

maybe it was because there was one team stacked with some of the best players in the world.
but i do agree with some of your points.

At least they can't be bought out.

Yeah, it's easier to watch FIBA style bball because the game flow is much quicker, a timeout usually lasts just one minute, and halftime breaks are shorter, not to mention playtime. And it is a lot more physical than NBA, so that argument about Euro players being soft isn't true.

But it is great if you have a chance to watch both FIBA bball and NBA, so you can get the best out of both playing styles.

That's like saying x is uglier than Sam Cassell. We all know that it's impossible. Some NBA refs doesn't even know the rules properly.(Eddie Rush)

NBA game is more spectacular, with 1 on 1 and athletic dunks, and FIBA rewards fundamentals like passing and team play. Both sides have their good and bad points, but nice to see FIBA ball get some love.

FIBA pro's:

Better flow ie shorter timeouts, halftime
No superstar calls
Can play more physical defense

FIBA cons:

Weak 3 pt line. Allows big men with no other skills to just sit out there. Equalizes teams with lesser talent. Push it back. Less athleticism/creativity.
Moving screens never called
Refereeing is way too inconsistent from game to game
Get rid of that basketball and get the NBA ball
40<48 minute game fouls don't mean as much

having played it, I have a stronger understanding and like for it, FIBA will always have a spot in my heart, but NBA ball is still tops for me...

I definitely like the fact that the game is much more physical. The NBA needs to get back to that. The 3 point line is too close though. Also, anybody who suggests that the FIBA refs are worse than NBA refs must not watch much NBA, because the refs are the NBA's worst problem

1. The 3 line is being moved back next season in FIBA. Not quite as long as the NBA but closer to it. A needed move.

2. Moving screens are called in the NBA? I'd like to introduce you to the 2008 Boston Celtics.

3. And reffing is the picture of consistency in the NBA?

4. Doesn't matter both balls are fine IMO but I lean to the NBA ball as well.

5. Yeah because nothing is more fun than watching D12 for 6 mins in a half because of foul trouble.

I love the FIBA pace, much close to true basketball style. It'll never happen in the NBA because of advertising revenue but I wish it would. I think basketball would get much better ratings if the game we're 2=2 1/2 hours rather than the grind fests that they are now. No reason an NBA game at 48 mins should be as long as a 60 min football game where the clock stops on nearly every play. But FIBA has a much better balance of fouls/contact. Its not so bad as to be a FT shooting contest (yesterday being as close as you'll get, which Ill take any day of the week) but its still consistent enough not to be 75-71 games with NBA talent on a consistent basis. Very refreshing.

There is something I hate when I watch NBA game.
TIME OUTS

Game played by FIBA rules is maybe 1.30-2 h long, but NBA game is always 3 h long. Time out is at least 5 minutes long, and there are 20 s time outs which are actualy 2 min time outs.
It's killing the game, it's killing the enjoy of watching.
It's enough one short and one long time out for half time.

There are some great thing about FIBA ball like less timeouts and stoppages in play and more physicality.

The shorter 3 point line is a big negative for me. Everything is congested and nearly everyone on the court can shoot the 3. Three point shots should be more difficult..that's why you get an extra point for them. FIBA is pushing their line farther back soon though. I also don't like the smaller court. I think even NBA courts are a bit too small for today's players.

Officiating is pretty terrible in FIBA. Calls are very inconstant. I always find myself saying throughout the game "If that's a foul, why wasn't this" and things like that. They also allow pretty blatant moving screens, which is annoying. It's extremely difficult to guard the pick n roll when the screener is moving.

Games also feel a bit short with 10 minute quarters instead of 12.

The NBA could definitely benefit from adopting some of the rules FIBA has. I wish they would just get together and create a uniform set of rules for the NBA and FIBA to follow.

The Fiba game just seems to "flow" better than the NBA. The stoppages are far too long in the NBA game.

yes. loved Fiba basketball

-really enjoy the PHYSICALITY of it. Ticky tack off the ball fouls and bumps arent called nearly as much. Reminds me of the NBA in Jordans heyday- which just made for much more intense matches imo. Screw the flashy dunks etc. There is a dunk contest for that.
-3pt line is too short. When Andrew Bogut is regularly spotting up for threes (although Bucks fans loved seeing it) the line is just too short
-less space and zone defences encourage ball movement and teamwork. Its more fun watching the ball zip around like a hot potato trying to outrun the d rather than watching an NBA player dribble around for 20 seconds and then take a fadeaway jumper
-It was super great watching Team USA finally play this way. They put egos aside and put on a goddam show (and so they should). Bosh, Kobe, Wade, LBJ all bought into the 'team' concept and probably came away from the experience better players
-each team is so passionate about their play it has shades of international soccer, where players and fans are probably the most passionate in the world. Its what basketball NEEDS.
-its going to be fun watching the international teams try to catch up (again) now that the USA has a real team. They probably will, and the USA will have to find another way to keep it their sport.

I still love the NBA, but fans who say they ONLY enjoy the NBA are missing out big time, imo.
