What's the Deal with Dwight Howard?

Post#1 » by He Hate Me » Mon Aug 25, 2008 2:08 am

Am I the only person totally dissapointed with his performance? I think Bosh totally outplayed him BUT THATS NOT THE POINT. Where was his physical dominance? Where was his assertiveness? What does it say about a good player when they cannot stand out among other good players? Going into these olympics I thought he would be our secret weapon as no country in the world has a player that can compare to his athleticism and size but his lack of technical skills took him out of most 4th quarters.

1. The international style favors a player like bosh over a player like howard. offensively with the trapezoid lane and no 3 second rule, and defensively having to guard mobile 5s on the perimeter and being able to switch, bosh is just a much better player suited for that style.
2. the officiating in international ball is notoriously bad for traditional american bigs. remember duncan? he couldn't breathe on someone without a foul being called. and this year I don't think i saw a single play where howard didn't have a player from the other team holding him down by the arm on rebounds, and almost none of them got called
3. INTL players love to flop, and howard being a big boy, well, he's easy prey.
4. wasn't he playing with a cracked sternum?

He was decent... not outstanding by any means, but he wasn't expected to carry the team offensively either. I don't see how you can criticize Dwight. Praise Bosh instead for stepping up.

I tried to in a previous thread but it was locked by an officer of the board. gotta love what a little bit of power does to people. Bosh amazed me btw.

I thought both Bosh and Wade's performance stole the show.

thread was locked because it was over 10 pages and reached it's pinnacle...there was nothing new being stated and arguments can only go so long...not that I really had to explain that...

I can say why it was locked. Dude, you are providing no arguement other than what you think you have seen. Show some stats or something.

A lot of the teams focused on him and managed to take him out of the game. There were no easy touches inside.

IBTL

. . . ok sure Bosh outplayed him in the olympics, but who outplayed who in last years post-season?¿ Game/Set/Match

If we based all players on their Olympic performance, than the Arroyo's & Delfino's would be the Cp3's & LeBron's of the league. . .

Geeeeze. . .get over it

I locked it, and rightfully so.

Criticizing Dwight Howard isn't allowed on this board.

But IMO Dwight Howard was getting hacked so much and refs refuse to call it. I've have never seen ANY player fouled and not get the calls he deserves like Howard did in these Olympics.

NBA refs might suck but at least they give bigs their due.

I don't think he played particularly well, looked very timid from what I saw, but that could be because he was getting called for everything and wanted to stay in the game. Doesn't really matter anyway, he will still rape the NBA.

bosh was amazing? what I saw was a great job on FTs by him but getting pushed around a lot down low by the gasol bros. we must have been watching different games. I wish we had some other bigs to face them. I agree with all the points of the 2nd poster..except dwight says his sternum is fine so that shouldn't be an issue. Dwight was getting held and surrounded a lot which enabled other players to get free for rebs.. and then gasol wrapping up dwight running down the floor and dwight getting his arm free and gasol complaing about the no call.. that got me laughing..yes, it should have been a foul on gasol.. Didn't expect him to get big numbers..the lane was always crowded w/ the no 3 sec rule. luckily we had better shooting and than previous olympics and wade was awesome..

Bosh was very important...he played pretty well through and through and really stepped it up from his previous FIBA appearances...

is it just me or any time you try to criticize wade or dwight howard, somebody comes in a locks the thread... why so much love for them two over others. Also if Bosh did outplay him in the olympics give him his due rather than being an howard *ss kisser.
