Argentine/Italian National Team Question

Are guys like Nocioni, Delfino, Ginobili, and Oberto allowed to play on the Italian National team? I was thinking about this because they have Italian descent and Chris Kaman was allowed to play for Germany.

Nope... just like Romel Beck can't play with Spain. Argentina is not a colony.

they all played games for their A-national team so under FIBA rules they're not allowed to play for another country

Only one naturalized player( i.e. Kaman) can play for a NT. You can't have more then one.
Also if you play for one NT only once if you are only on the rooster even and don't even suit up, you can never play for any other NT again.

???
That's got nothing to do with that.

Guys like them could, but those 3 can't.
FIBA rule states that once you played for one national team after the age of 18, you can't play for another (not sure about the exact age).
Delfino and Ginobili have Italian passports so they could've played for Italy but they chose to play for Argentina, and can't switch now.

On the same issue- there's anothe FIBA rule: Each national team allowed to have only one player on its roster that got his passport/citizenship after the age of 18-16 (again, not sure about the age). So that some countries won't just give passport to 5 American player and play them in the national team. This is how JR Holden or Becky Hammon can play for Russia.

Yup, JustMagic is %100 correct.

To add: there are lots of Argentinian athletes with Italian or Spanish(rarely French) passports so they're not considered as foreigners in Europe and this eases their transfer to Europe. In UEFA rules If you've EU citizenship you can play in any European country. There are limits for non EU players for example in Italian Soccer league you can't sign more than one non Eu player in a season. Passport fraud is a huge problem in Argentina lots of players have been suspended by FIFA.

If you're talking just about US passports, I don't think you will find 3 names of players from Argentina playing in Europe NOT HAVING them. Probably the entire NT has a EU passport (usually Italian or Spanish).
