So Does the NBA have a NEW New Orleans Plan ?

I wonder what their plan is if New Orleans gets wiped off the map again.
Pretty sad and serious situation looming down there, the city and people rate way higher than an NBA squad for sure, but a month out from training camp and this massive storm hitting, it comes to mind.

I wonder where they could go temporarily, or maybe forever if NOLA goes down.

Obviously the initial knee jerk answer is Seattle, blah blah blah. Kansas City ? Austin, TX ? St. Louis ?

Stern, the office in NYC, and the schedule computer must have something in mind as a back-up.

.....or the conference call is going on somewhere right now.

Katrina really wasn't that bad when it hit New Orleans, the city just wasn't prepared or built to withstand hurricanes so it did mass damage. Stronger hurricanes hit Florida fairly often, I can think of 3 off top just from when I lived there that were stronger than Katrina strength wise.

I don't know how New Orleans is doing rebuilding but I suspect they made the buildings and houses to withstand hurricane force winds now.

Holy ****. I hope he's just trying to alert people and get them to leave this time. Because if that's really true then this sucks big time.

I hope they come to Orange County... i doubt it will happen since everyone here is a Lakers fan but i think it would be awesome. Not to mention i live 2 mins away from the Honda Center (arrowhead pond)

California has enough teams. Las Vegas 2.5 million metro with 50 million tourists a year.

They cant do basketball in the Thomas and Mack in Vas because UNLV uses it for college basketball.

It was kind of a guess but Charlie, Andrew, Ivan, and Wilma were all fairly strong. Katrina was only a category 3 when it hit New Orleans, to give you an idea of how unprepared New Orleans was Charlie was a category 4 when it hit and we didn't even lose our pool cage, granted it cleared out all of the mobile homes in the area and destroyed practically all of the vacant houses, but again that comes down to preparation.

if they need a temp home, my guess is seattle.

only place i can think of with an NBA-level arena that is open.

but lets just hope things aren't going to be as bad as katrina. then again, they haven't finished rebuilding and replacing the levies, so who knows.

I have a feeling they might just end up playing in Baton Rouge if the storm hits as hard as it can. Kansas City makes sense too.

I don't think anyone will play in Seattle immediately, and it's just too far from NOLA and it's fans.

Hope the stadium and the city both hold up alright.

If they are to play elsewhere next season, I hope its Seattle. I hope it doesn't come to that, but its my preference if that's the case. I don't know if the NBA would want to have them in Kansas City as it doesn't view them as a long term solution for a team. Stern may just decide to put a team in Seattle for the city letting Bennett buy his way out of town and now Schultz dropping the lawsuit. It also looks like financing could be happening this coming legislative session so he may look at it differently now that his boy-toy got a team in OKC.

New Orleans Hornets franchise has agreed to move within North America. It's new home will be in Mexico, and the new name of the franchise will Mexico City Mariachis. Press conference will be held tomorrow morning in the Zocalo of the city for Chris Paul and the owners to be presented to the new market.

Ah ok, didn't realize it went down a level when it reached NO. Though the city doesn't seem very confident about it's preparations..

Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal said Saturday afternoon. "We could see flooding even worse than we saw in Hurricane Katrina."

I don't know if that's just to scare people out or just really bad prep due to still rebuilding

New Orleans biggest problem was and still is that they are under sea level. So while it is easy to say that worse storms have hit other areas, very few of those areas have had to deal with the water staying once it hits land fall. If the waves are as high as they are predicting, this could get really bad again.
