The NBA in 2058

Post#1 » by 99 Problems » Mon Sep 1, 2008 3:13 am

What are your predictions on what the NBA, and basketball globally will look like in 50 years?

Some things to think about: Will it still enjoy the same popularity as today, become the premier sport in the world, or perhaps fold? Will technology alter the sport? Will there be any radical rule changes? Will there be a major change in the types of players that are playing size-wise, or perhaps changes in the traditional positions and gameplans? Will it finally become a global league or downsize to a smaller number of teams? Will there be more of a global parity in terms of skill and talent? Will we see new trends nobody expected?

Obviously its far off, but just post your best guess... Hopefully we'll all be around to see what happens...

Won't be that popular. NBA on PS7 will makes things virtual so you can beat Lebron James III one on one.

People will be saying that Kobe Bron and Wade are scrubs that wouldn't hack it in today's league because of the advancements in training.

Game will enter niche status in the USA. Be as big as soccer in the rest of the world.

Likely there won't be an NBA... or basketball will evolve incredibly different, to a point that a person of today wouldn't consider basketball the basketball of 2058. The sport will most definitely evolve, and it won't be basketball anymore.

However, soccer will be the same... and I feel the MLS will have surpassed both NHL, MLB, and perhaps even NFL if it gets wildly popular. Which it can because it is so international and loved so much.

Also I expect Golf to be much smaller, and tennis to remain close to the same, probably ball changes for better vision and slightly bigger court, but Tennis is a pretty stable sport.

NBA will be international, there will be franchises in Madrid, and Beijing for sure, and it might become rival to the EPL or La Liga in profits. I mean, if it goes really really international, it will thump any other sports leagues of any country or anywhere that we know and that we think we understand. It will be insane. Also there will be jersey sponsorships, and the on-court fashion will change.
