6 million a year for a backup, you gotta be kidding me

should be more like 4 million, Ryan Gomes kinda money

Garcia's a talented backup swingman, he's worth that kind of money. I say it's a good deal, nice job getting him inked for the near future.

I agree that it's overpaid, but Garcia has potential on both sides of the ball from what I've seen..it might end up being a good contract later on..

Isn't Garcia 25, 26 or so? At this point he's into the 'he is what he is' stage of his career. And he seems to be more of a $4M/yr 8th man than a $6M/yr 5th/6th man.

That is definitely overpaying. There is no way he would have gotten more as a FA. So why give him this contract now? He is worth about 4 mio per, IMO.

There is no slot for what a player is going to get paid.

If he became a free agent next season, you think teams would stop bidding at 4 million dollars because some guy on a message board says thats what hes worth.

Its the NBA, you pay for past and potential and Garcia has shown he can play and he has potential to improve his game.

With Ron Artest gone, the SG/SF rotation for the Kings is Martin, Salmons and Garcia as the first backup off the bench. I see him getting 28- 30 minutes a game this season. What would you pay to a 15 ppg backup who can play three positions and good defense? Certainly more than 4 million a year.

i wouldnt pay a backup that kind of money on a terrible team, in my opinion he is not even as good as kelanna azuibuke who signed for wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy less

The way Kings fans (and FO apparently) see it is that Garcia can easily command MLE next year, anything less is blessed, actually I'm wondering why he would sign such a deal when clearly this is his year to show his worth.

martin got his extension after putting up one heck of a season. garcia's was pretty average.

So Kapono for 4 years at 6 mil a year is a travesty but Garcia at 6 mil a year for 5 years is a solid deal? You gotta be kidding me...

Martin also got paid almost double what Cisco is getting.

The big knock on Kapono is that he's one-dimensional. Cisco is anything but that.

Kapono shoots 3's, Garcia can play point, rebounds, plays great defense, has a great shot from inside and beyond the arc. Yeah its a solid deal. He averaged around 17/5 when he was starting for us in a couple of games.

Not to mention that if you want to find a more comparable example, look no further than John Salmons. Everybody at the time--including Kings fans--thought the signing for that amount seemed straight up moronic. We were all quite wrong about that.

you do realized that you used a sample size of 2 games to prove a point, right?

he actually started 20 games and averaged 16.35 ppg. so close enough.
