Kobe's Barometer

Now we all know where the MVP is setting his sights at the top.....not the Cav's.....not the Spurs
nor the Rockets. The 25th is gonna be big.
Plus, his words went a long way toward explaining the Lakers' recent public dissatisfaction with their play. They know they must play better and more efficiently than they have recently in order to achieve their goal of winning a championship. "We'll beat the good teams," Bryant said. "It's Boston that's our barometer. That's the team that beat us. They're the standard. They're the benchmark. That's the team that beat us, so that's how it's going to be." Los Angeles Daily News

Can't wait for the LA Boston rematch. Kobe's right, the Lakers have proven that they are tops in their conference, and that their sights should be set on Boston (though don't overlook the Cavs).
Boston is still the champ. And to be the best, you gotta beat the best. The Lakers still have a ways to go to improve their defense, but they have the potential to make it good enough come June.

The most important thing I learned from this was that Kobe doesn't really understand what a barometer is.
I will retract that statement, of course, if someone can convince me that he was saying that the Celtics were his tool for determining changes in atmospheric pressure.

No,Its a figure of speech, you know. Determining the level of expectation form himself and his team, what level they need to be on etc.............
Even a five year old would agree that the team to beat is the Cs.
What is there that you dont understand, they are the Champs and this season they are still playing like champions, so thats where you draw the line, to be the best by beating the best.

What would happen if Kobe lost in the first round this year. You never know, happened to the Mavericks.
Just wondering, I think the media would never let it go. Would Shaq make another rap?

I think this thread was basically created to show how some ex-champion players have class while others don't. Some are willing to admit that there are other good teams / players in the league while others crawl on the ground and bark like dogs.

There's been some extra Kobe hatred on this site this season even though this has been the most drama-free Lakers season in a LONG time and even though Kobe has been the most media-benign (almost to the extent of boredom) this season in a LONG time as well.
He's averaging 34 minutes (pretty much a career low), shooting 19 shots a game (pretty much a career low) while still shooting 46%/88% from the field on 2 less 3-pt chucks a game, and he's being called washed up and a ballhog?
Ridiculous, if you ask me.

The only thing i learned from this was that you don't know what idioms are.

it doesn't have to be..but it looks like you only made this thread to hear about how good the Celtics are and that LA can't beat them..

Honestly if he said his Lakers were the team to beat and everyone is playing for 2nd best... this thread would be 10 pages long.

Celtic fans are annoying only because they're team are the champs now. Kobe recognizes how well Boston is playing, that they're the team with the best record and it doesn't matter what the Lakers do they need to prove they can beat the Celtics.
December 25th is going to be BIG, 2 more weeks. How big do you think that game thread is going to get to. I'm betting at least 50+ pages.....

This really doesn't mean anything. Everyone's sights should be set on Boston. They are the champs afterall.
