How underrated is Dirk?

Post#1 » by MagicFan32 » Wed Dec 31, 2008 6:43 am

This guys reputation took a beating over the past few years and some of it was warrented.

but he's putting up 26/9 on 47 percent shooting that's pretty damn good

I think if you put McGee back then, he would get those blocks just as easily as Russell did. Russell's athleticism was well ahead of the players of his time, and that's about it.

Why does everyone have to be either underrated or overrated? Isn't not being discussed or newsworthy what you are going for?

Just guessing here but most would put him third best PF in the game.

1. Duncan
2. Garnett
3. Dirk

With a few choosing Boozer, Stoudamire or Bosh ahead of him. Seems fair to me, even though I just made up that list.
"I definitely knew he traveled, but I didn't know they were going to call it. That was one of them situations in which a great player made a move...and they called the call. And I was like, 'Oh, man, there is a God.'

Well, looking at the crap posted on the trade forum, I'd say he's pretty damn under-rated!

Ever since Dallas lost to the Warriors Dirk has "fallen off" in most peoples' eyes.

IMO Dirk is better than Amare....but Amare is the sexier pick.

Dirk is still unquestionably a top 5 PF one way or another. You can argue Amare & Bosh however you want - they are all great offensive players that rebound well, and non of them are particularly good defenders or proven to be especially mentally tough. I'd take any of em on the Pistons just the same. They'd all look damn fine playing between Tayshaun & Sheed lol

Dirk is imo the 3rd best PF in the game. When people say that he is, I feel that he is rated correctly. However, when you start taking guys like Boozer over him it shows how underrated he is

Underrated?

He stole the MVP
Choked in the playoffs
Hasn't won a title
got punked out by David West

He's right where he should be, an aging average star who can't win it all and whose now "just there" to fans.

He "stole" the MVP in a regular season where he was the best player on the best team.
He choked by putting up star numbers in every series but the GSW one.
Neither has LeBron, so what?
"punked out" by a guy who was trying to get Dirk ejected.
An "aging" star who shows no signs of aging.

It's idiots like you that make Dirk Nowitzki an underrated player. Most fans have brains and they can comprehend that he is a sensational player but apparently you don't and thus cannot.

Who in their right mind would say Boozer was better?

You cant be under-rated if you have won an MVP.

Forgotten a bit maybe. But thats because Dallas has been relatively quiet this year.

This year the talk of the town has been the Celtics, Cavs, Lakers everyone else is basically under the radar ready to attack.

He deserved to win over Nash when Nash won his second MVP. That's underrated. Oh, and Dirk is better than KG. KG is a little bitch. He hasn't been able to do a thing in the league unless he's surrounded with multiple All Stars.

He's just off the radar. I'm sure a lot of people would still call him top-3 PF material, but I question how low he might fall on overall player lists. I would probably have him a bit higher than most.
